With plans of targeting one species and one species only, we hit the lake with great expectations of putting some bass in the boat. After about 20 minutes we were able to hit our mark and make that dream a reality. First fish, a shortie but a solid healthy fish, we were on the board!
We made our way along some rock shore and managed to pick up two more senko fish and then I decided it was time to bust out the BIG bait, the bass killer, the 10″ worm! Having just started fishing Berkley 10″ worms last year in late season with average success I was a little optimistic of the results we would see. Well let’s just say that now I am hooked on these monsters worms for life. I think it was about the 4th or 5th cast and I connected using a blue/black 10″ worm with 5/0 Gamakatsu offset hook. At first I was just happy to have been bit and it didn’t seem like this fish was anything special, then she showed her face! First thing out of my mouth was, “Get the net, this is a picture fish!”
She fought the good fight and made a couple good runs, two under the boat, but we eventually landed her. She went 21″ and weighed 4.5lbs and her tail was still bloody. I only wish that I would have caught her when she had that belly full of eggs! We took some pictures and back she went to fight another day.
After all of the excitement we continued fishing and mixed it up a bit with one of us throwing a 10″ Berkley Power Worm and the other throwing a GULP 7″ Turtle worm. We managed a few more fish with both baits and ended the night with 9 bass and 1 catfish that was hungry for some GULP!
Overall it was a great evening on the water and the weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. Good times with good company always make for a great trip; the fish are just the bonus!
Here are some pics!
Go out and get some,
