Along with the schedule release, BASS will announce some new tournament structures. After doing some reading on multiple Bass related websites, the common consensus is that BASS might go away from having co-anglers fish from the back of the boat and many have speculated that the non-boaters might be replaced by paid observers, or that Elite anglers might fish alone.

From what I’ve read, BASS had the Elite anglers vote on the topic, but that outcome is unknown.

There is a general feeling among many co-anglers that the Elite anglers have alienated themselves from the co-anglers by saying they don’t want them in the back of the boat. Much of that is hearsay and second hand info.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough. My hope is that BASS continues to allow the co-angler to compete.

So the anglers may fish alone.

If I’m not mistaken isn’t the prize money like $250,000 for first place?

If they do that then the
State of Minnesota will have a great model for saving millions yearly. We can have the inmates on the honor system at all the state prisons and jails. Just ask them nicely if they please won’t escape and please don’t damage the facility or other inmates. No need for guards.

Somebody is smokin crack if they think these guys can or would police themselves.

Your not even comparing apples to apples. Believe it or not at that level, people are actually very consious of the rules. Its not like Jim and Billy Bob’s multi-species tournament.

I could care less if they do away with co-angles in the elite series. There are plenty of other great circuts for that have co-anglers.

There will still be an ‘observer’ in the boat…just not a fishing one…

I guess i really don’t know what to say about them not having co-angler, From what i have read so far online that Elite Pro’s are just pumped about it. They think it will really help the sport, I see there point but no matter what, someone need to be riding alone with these anglers PERIOD.

But on a good note they are going to have a Bassmaster Open Northern Series!!!! THANK YOU!!! I’m really excited about that, with the price of gassss

I’m sure the observers will have to pay. They will do most likely do those tournaments similar to the way the ran the Elite 50 tournaments a couple years ago. They didn’t have co-anglers fishing out of the boat, but they had observers that paid to ride in the boat with the pros all day. If they do it the same you still get a chance to spend time with a pro, you just don’t get to wet a line. It would still be a good learning experiance though.

I also like the addition of the Northern Opens, why is the West left out again? It was much tougher to get into the opens this year. Last year we didn’t see a full field and this year I was boat 250 and they only take 200. So hopefully, the addition of the Northern Opens will allow more people the opportunity to fish.

I wonder how far “NORTH” this will go? Northern to the people down south is like Nebraska

You can learn something from your partner every time, well almost every time you go out. Two fisherman can figure things out much quicker than one. I have fished a few of these and most of the am. sticks are pretty good. I bet they have saved a pros day more times than they would care to admit. To bad they dumped them for now.

The schedules been released, and the co-anglers have been cut from the Elite Series.

    From Bassmaster.com

The Co’s have themselves to blame for being kicked out.

They have been trying to take over the Pro’s boats more and more each year. Casting to the Pro’s water, over his line, complaining about spot selection, etc, etc.

The thing I don’t like is, now all those jerk Co’s will probably start fishing the Opens and ruin it for those of us who know how to respect the Pro we are fishing with.

The last season of the northern opens they fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, the Hudson out of Catskill and Smith Mountain in Virginia. So the travel wasn’t any easier for us in the central US. So I don’t know what they mean by north. For all I know north might be north of Texas since the centrals are just as far south at the southern opens.
