Some of you may have read the online stories about BASS moving the Jr. Classic away from the BASS Classic this year. If not, what’s happened is all the Jr. BASS members who qualified for the Jr. Classic were promised the chance to fish with their heros. Guys like Kevin VanDam, Skeet Reese and Mike Iaconelli to name a few.
Not too long ago BASS made the decision to move the Jr. Championship away from the Classic, leaving some people out in cold with non-refundable airfare and such. BASS’ spin on this decision reads as follows. “The BASS Federation Nation is the main conduit of support for BASS’s youth initiatives, and the move will allow the grassroots organization of BASS to lend more active support to the marquee youth championship event.”
Think what you will about the decision, there’s already been a large outcry against the move.
Now, on the heels of that decision, some of the BASS anglers who’ve qualified for the Classic have stepped up to the plate and have offered to take the Jr. Classic anglers out fishing. Guys like John Crews, Ish Monroe and Mike Iaconelli are true heros to these kids.
Kudos to those BASS Classic qualifiers. I hope more anglers step up and offer to help out the Jr. members who’ll be there.
