    Hello –

I am just wondering what you guys use for lures/bait for bass in the fall and what types of locations do you try to find them in? Water warming up in mid day? If so what kind of presentation? Is it best to fish later morning instead of early morning? Main reason I am asking is because we are living on a lake and I will actually get to fish for bass in the fall – something I never have really done before. So I am looking for all the help I can get. Also, if you could only use 1 lure in the fall what would your lure be? Thanks.

Topwater in the fall – however, topwater on the river is much better than a lake system.

If I could only use 1 lure – it would probably be a spinnerbait.

As the water gets colder the weeds start to die off…but some of them will remain green right up to ice up. I key on the best looking green weeds I can find, especially if there’s deep water near by.

As far as presentation, I’ve had some great days in the fall throwing crankbaits along the weedlines. If that doesn’t work I’ll try slow rolling a spinner bait.

Fall is a great time to catch the biggest Bass of your life. Good luck!

I have had really good luck pitching a jig-n-pig or even a slow falling texas rigged creature by them nice green weed clumps in deep water. my go to bait for this time of year is either a texas rigged creature or a lizzard.

Buzzbaits, Spinnerbaits, swim jigs, shakey heads, crankbaits and flukes are all among my favorite presentations in the fall for largemouth. I really enjoy cranking up deep, stacked, suspended fish.

For me the fall is my favorite time of the year for bass fishing. You can catch big bass in the spring, but the fall can be even better. Often they are at their heaviest weights all year. I love finesse fishing. When the water temps are in the low 60’s I’ve noticed the best shaky head action of all year. I like to fish depths of 8 to 15 feet and work the bait slow. Sometimes just letting it sit on the bottom. Nothing beats catching bass up to and around 5 pounds on light spinning tackle. Cranking would be me second best technique this time of year.

    Chad,

I see you’re in SE MN so I’ve fished some of the lakes in your area. My experience with the lakes in your area is the fish stay shallow till ice-up. I’d suggest working the weed flats with a spinnerbait or swimjig. The fish tend to scatter so plan on covering water. We had a club tournament on Cedar last fall. It was a tough bite but the swimjig worked well for me.
