Your Favorite Slop bait?

Since the slop bite is heating up I was wondering what your favorite Slop bait was?

I have been doing well on the Hard nose white frog.

I did give the Spro frog a shot, They seemed to be a bit harder to get the hook set, but I did just fine on them until I lost 2 in a few hours.

Pike also will beat these things to death (along with everything else).

What is your preference? Do you “trick” the lure in any way for different circumstances?

Spro Bronzeye frogs. I cut the skirt down to about 2″. It walks better and gets better bites (not short).. Love ’em in heavy pads but also open water. They are just fine through heavy slop, but the walking action is gone so you might as well just throw any other (not 8$) frog

I also like the swamp donkey from reaction innovations, but will have to buy a couple and fish them harder before I form a true opinion about them.

I thought swim jigs have a 50% better hook up ratio than frogs? jk

Swamp Donkey’s Rule. Spro’s are good too. Scum Frogs will get the job done, and are 4x less than the first two mentioned.

As Slop mentioned,”scum frogs” do a good job at a good price,I have let my two boys throw these baits for a long time now, hook -ups are pretty fair. I like the MossBoss alot too- without a weed guard hooked fish pecentage is high

Spro Bronzeye all the way. I cut one side of the skirt about 1/2-3/4 of an inch shorter than the other to improve the walk-the-dog action in open water. Tying them on with a bowline instead of a cinch-knot also helps quite a bit.

lol, I didn’t see the light back then slop. i am pretty confident with hooking fish w/ swim jigs in the slop, but am now much more confident with a frog. Plus you can stop a spro or donkey and just twitch it and they inhale it.

Anyway, now that you are a pro, can I have your autograph?

in light slop, I toss a spro frog, scum frog, buzz bait also run cranks downt he edges, also toss in a jig-n-pig every now and then, when I can find some nice openings in the weeds. in heavy cover, nothing more than a spro frog or scummie.

Brovarney swim jig with 5″ st grub or cane toad trailer

I have been trying to decide between spro bronzeye, swamp donkey and bobbys perfect frog as far as those go. I do use the regular old “scummy” sometimes too- as cade alluded to especially when pre or fun fishing or in heavy stuff. Not to hijack the post but anyone find any big differences in the donkey, spro and perfect frogs that they care to share??

Swim jigs in black or red shad color with a pro tour bait 2.5 inch crazy chunk. Also 10″ powerbait red shad when the day is hot.

I find for me the Spro hooks up better than Bobby’s, less missed blow ups. Both walk well. Only have limited experience with the Donkey, but I liked it pretty well. In heavier slop, I like the Sumo frog too, good hookup rate, but harder for me to walk in more open water than the Spro.

Swamp donkey is a funny name, but most of that company’s names are funny or suggestive. I like the spro frog and zoom horny toad

I’ve used both Spro and Bobby’s Perfect Frog and I’ve had better luck hooking up with the Perfect Frog. Both are fine frogs as far as I’m concerned. I think with light slop the easiest lure to hook up with is a plain old Boss Rat or Moss Mouse. They collapse easily and are also only around 3 dollars. There only drawback is they don’t handle the extremely heavy pads as well as the Spro or Perfect Frog.

After this last weekend I’ll be hard pressed to fish anything except a pink rat

I love using the Mann’s super frog. The only down fall I have found with them is with any white color frog the plastic is twice a stiff. I usually use a black and red or a color they call Cypress frog. I used a black one to win a tournament on pool 10 last summer. It was brand new when I got there on Friday morning and by the time I left on Sunday it was ready to be put away.

The legs are shorter then the Spro but they do walk okay. I have caught more on them then my spro frogs and they coast a fraction of the price.

This year on Minnetonka the YUM version of a swim frog on a 4/0 superline hook has produced some awsome fish and lots of numbers. The feet have more of a paddle on the end of them and it is like a buzz bait over the slop and the real key is 2-4 feet after the slop in open water. Black has really been the ticket for me this year.

I have even been skipping them under docks and doing very well at that.

Vet, have you tried the Stanley Ribbets? Last year I tried Zoom Horny Toads, Yum’s frogs, Mann’s Hardnose Frogs, and finally settled on the Ribbets. I found that they have the best splash for the buck! Now I’ve got a ton of extra frogs I can cut up and use for trailers!

Ribbits are “louder/splashier” and that can be the ticket on some days. On othere the more subtle hard nose seems to do it for the green backs.

If you like the ribbit frogs try the bass pro shop Humpin Toads. They have almost the same amount of leg action as the ribbit frogs. They have some really nice colors, my first choice is a smoke. It works really well on sunny days.

I do perfer the ribbets if there is a chop on the water or if I am swimming them in open water, but they seem to tear up too easily in the slop for me and that is why I use the YUM in the slop. Lake Fork just sent me some of their frogs and I am going to try them out on Wed morning on Minnetonka for a while.
