Since Wisconsin allows catch and release fishing for bass at season opening (May 3rd) I was looking for any helpful ideas you all might have, thanks.

Look for shallow mud bays on the north side of the lake and you will find bass. White spinner baits and plastics will work

Ice out bass I look for any type of wood or rock. Something that will hold heat and bring the forage.

For lures, jerkbait fished real slow, carolina rig dragged along the bottom, jig fished slow. anything like that. Nothing moving quickly and nothing flashy until the water temp gets over 50 is my rule.

    Good luck!

So Wisconsin can catch/release bass starting May 3rd?

Does that include the St. Croix River bordering Minnesota?

There doesn’t seem to be a catch and release season on the St Croix River open season May 24th

I heard only smallmouth are subject to the catch & release season starting this year. Largemouth are open state wide on the 3rd.

I did see that they changed the Northern zone so it is open to largemouth starting May 3rd but Smallmouth are still catch and release till June 21st in the Northern zone.
