When using a swim jig on braid is it advisable to use a flouro leader? I fish clear water but heavy cover. Most all my gear has yellow Power Pro to make it easier to line watch. Does any one have any thoughts? Thanks.

In heavy cover, no you do not. In open water or around wood, IMO yes you do. Take a black and green sharpie and camo up your yellow line for the last 6 feet. It will wear off but you will get a full day or two before you need to touch it up again.

Why are you running it on braid and not straight Fluro? I switched several years ago to straight 20# seaguar abrazix. If anything my catch rate went up by less messing with knots. My bait spends more time in the water and your fishing a moving bait. The stretch differential between the 2 is insignificant due to a constantly moving bait. The improvements in Fluro castanility and handling make that a near non issue. I really see no advantages gained bye running braid.

I also go with straight Fluro ( 20-25 Lb.)I use to go with the braid and Fluro leader but the Time and extra worry about a additional knot to worry about was not worth it. I have had no problems with breakoffs or lost fish since going with Fluro. I believe the # of bites I get on swim jigs has gone up as well.

Spinning or bait casting? if spinning use modified albright knot to flouro leader. If bait casting you could have one set up straight flouro. Look up the modified albright or alberto knot. Developed for salt water application to attach leader to braid I have never had a failure very easy to tie goes thru guides no problem. HAd many failures at know with uni to uni

I have less “overspin” on my baitcasters with braid. The other reason for braid is that I have to use a small boat and so I use the same rod for swim jigs and rattle traps.I tried straight flouro on a spinning reel a few years ago and I had alot of problems with it.I do have some spinners with Yozuri premium hybrid which is o.k.

Also, along the same lines, has anyone tried a small swivel between the main line and the leader? Nearly all of my breakoffs occur when the braid cuts through the flouro.

    Straight braid for me–no leader.

I’ll give that a try Kevin, by the way, are you one of the “undefeated”?

I got some swim jigs last year but never gave them a thorough workout. I fish a lot of spinner baits and jigs with trailers so it seems like a perfect compromise. I used the same set-up I did for spinner baits 6’6″ M casting rod with 12-14# Mono. Other than line, is there a more preferred set-up?

I use straight 30-50 lb braid for swim jigs. Most times they are not getting a good look at it and ive never had a problem. Flipping jigs though i use all 17-20 lb flouro
