With water temps moving up in the low 70 degree mark and vegetation starting to creep toward the surface in that 5-7 fow range the topwater bite for bass in the evenings is heating up. I am not a bass guy at heart but watching a smallmouth hit a topwater towards evening is a lot of fun. I made a small trek into Northern MN to see some family as well as was out in Sodak as of late chasing some bass. Rapala Skitter Pops in the brown frog pattern as well as blue/silver are producing some fish. Like I said walleyes in the morning and midday with smallies ruling come the last few hours of the day. It is very fun to see a big bronzie come up miss once or twice and then smash the rapala skitter pop. I will continue to target eyes, but awefully fun way to target some bass as July winds on – QB
