I have some extra money and am looking for a new setup, I just got a quantam energy baitcast and cabelas tourney trail combo for half off and I’m thinking about getting a flipping stick or a spinning reel, follow up, what setup should I get?

610mxf spinning rage rod with purist size 30. Whatever your baitcast setup can’t do this setup will.

If this is your 2nd setup for bass I’d get a Spinning reel setup. There are a few things better done with spinning gear. Dropshotting, jigworming, dock skipping. just to name a few. Next rig I’d go back the baitcasting route.

Maybe not that expensive of a rod but the reel looks nice for a good price also

For me my flipping stick is my work horse! That is one rod I don’t think I could bass fish without. From plunking to fishing docks to dragging jigs or flipping wood, it tends to do it all at one time or another in my boat. So I would recommend a flipping stick. However if you primarily fish clear water with dropshot type baits, then I would lean more towards a spinning rod. The light line on a spinning rod is hard to beat in clear water, or in tough bite situations that is often the way to go.
I hope this helps and good luck with your decision!

I mainly fish a weedy pond with average size bass around 5 pounds, I have been looking at the quantum accurist with a daiwa airdrops rod or a quantum energy PTiC spinning reel and a Berkeley lightning shock rod , I usually am fishing in a tight spot where I cant use my regular baitcaster so I’m leaning towards a flipping stick

I would defiantly lean toward the flipping stick. If you are fishing weeds with fish that big you will want all the power you can get. Those big weed fish love to barry them selves as deep as they can as quick as they can, and you need to get there heads turned and rip them out as quick as you can. You can’t do it any better than with braid on a good flipping stick. Me personally I use a 6’10” and a 7’3″ both med heavy fast action rod with 50lb braid and love them!

I cant give you any advice on the Quantum reel or the Diawa aird. I personaly have not used either, or played with either. My 6’10” I use is a st. croix avid with a shimano curado, and the 7’3″ is a abu garcia veritas with an revo sx. I do like the veritas for the money and I did have a vendetta before that that I liked also. Good luck with your decision.

What are the specs on the rod you have? M or mh? But for thick weeds I use a 7-11 h from 13 fishing in their omen line it’s paired with a revo sx have used it all day no problem. But other wise I would go with 7’3″ mh paired with a reel that has at least 12 lbs of drag and a high gear ratio. That will be the most versatile rod combo.
