I have been on Lakes Superior and Michigan for a couple weeks steady now and the fishing has been awesome… Here are some really nice ones…
Best baits were Senkos and Grubs…water temps are still in the 60s… Don’t forget your bubblegum kids!

BTW…after thoroughly testing a pair of Quantum PTi 2500s since March…They have been excellent! Another good $139 reel to further befuddle us…

Man, your posts are making me jealous!

I’ve been working so much lately that I have only gotten out a couple times, and we didn’t get into them very good when we did.

    Nice fish, Tom!

Thanks Greg! Now the pattern seems to be stuck on smaller males with this l a t e spring.

Hey Tom, great looking smallmouth! What kind of depth are you fishing in? Would fly fishing be a possibility? Any surface action? How big a boat is necessary for safely fishing these bays?

    Hi Peter!
These fish were all caught in less than 7 fow…The cold water temps (44-46) and pre to spawning mode would probably diminish surface lure effectiveness but not prohibit it…
Many anglers fly fish Cheq Bay in the spring…generally throwing Clouser Minnows, Big Girdle Bugs and Leech Patterns.
The vitality of these Lake Superior Smallies is incredible…not a place for a 5 wt and 4X tippet!

I call that catch of fish Oxy-Morons. “Huge Smallies!”
