Fished Mills Lacs over the weekend…Saturday was memberable with the extreme bug hatches (midges??) and Sunday we fought the West winds all day; even though we fished the West side it was still windy for Bass fishing.
Saturday I had a really nice topwater bite with the bug hatches. I found the Rebel pop-R the best match after I went through almost every top water bait I had. Kinda wished I had small buggy poppers (Dahlburg diver).
Sunday we fought the winds most of the day but still had prety good fishing with over 30 fish caught by the end of the day; big fish was 18 3/4″. The winds shut off the topwater bite on Sunday for us but we found green tubes in ~5 to 8 FOW adjacent to rock piles the best presentation. What I found is the “blue water” adjacent to shallow rocks where I like to pin point my casts.
I suspect the fishing will only get better in terms of size and numbers as we get more into Summer.
I also observed:
1. Argulus fish parasites on several fish we caught.
2. Several fish on their spawning beds and some were still full of eggs.
3. How clear the water was; could see in almost 12 FOW.
