Looking for a new rod and reel combo. Looking to spend around 300 for the combo. Plan to use the rod for crankbaits/spinnerbaits/lipless cranks. Right now im leaning towards a curado 200g6 and shimao crucial cranker 7′ 2″ medium fast taper. Any other ideas or better values for 300?
The Quantum EXO series would be a little more than your budget, but I would take a serious look at the EXO and Smoke series from Quantum. They are incredibly light and everyone that gets in my boat freaks out on the weight difference between them and other “equivalent” combos.
I do a huge amount of crank’n and have settled up on the 7′ medium/fast as my all around crank rod. I have the 7’10 KVD composite for the deep divers and also run a 7′ EXO medium light for little cranks like 1/2oz lipless, Blade baits, and #4 rattle raps.
I have always been partial to Abu Garcia and have had good luck with them. I recently picked up a REVO STX paired with a Veritas rod and love it. Both light and strong. This combo would be in your price range with the reel at 200 and the rod at 100.
Smoke if you got’em, that’s what I say.
That Curado is a great reel. I own a few and have been solid throughout the past year.
I just picked up an Abu Garcia Revo STX and paired it with a 13 Fishing Omen. The combo is very lightweight and well balanced and if you shop around you’ll be able to find a good deal. I ordered separately, but paid a total of $256 to my door. $100 for the rod and $156 for a brand new Revo off of the big auction site.
I also own a Curado and it’s one hell of a reel as well
