I want to know what the best overall spinner bait on the market. Last summer on the great Lake Nipigon I found tandem titanium spinnerbaits to be big fish triggers over the usual spoons or mepps in-line style. I need new ones so durabilty for toothy critters is a major concern as the ones I used last year were chewed up pretty good.

If you want a long lasting spinnerbait you have to go titanium. Personally, I think the T-1 is the best on the market. http://www.basspro.com/Terminator-T1-Series-Titanium-Spinnerbaits-Tandem/product/10210974/#desc-tab

If I’m fishing in clearer water I will snip the clevis and take off the colorado, just leaving the single willow. Muddy water take the willow off and make it double colorado.

When you get any spinnerbait be sure to take some heavy braided line and tie several knots around the skirt just above the band, get them as tight as possible. This will help keep the skirt from being pulled off. A lot are coming wire or thread tied on now so it is not much of a worry.

Pike love the willow blades. White and anything in the yellow spectrum are great colors. Seems to me pike like the vibration off a non titanium built bait at times. There seems to be a bit more vibration and eraticness. Regular wire baits will get bet up, so you’ll have to tune then a lot. But not a huge deal. If you use a leader, which is a good idea, a twisted bait on the top will not foul up as much because of the leader slipping down. Super glue and extra skirts are a must. Good trailer hooks and a good plastic trailer on the main hook really can make a difference some days. A shopping list of trailer hooks, plastic trailer baits, extra skirts and some hardware is a must.

Titanium has way more vibration than a standard wire. About 3X more. Only thing better is piano wire, but they are so thin a good sized pike would wreck it.

You are right about titanium having more vibration. I use both and have found pike seem to like steel ones. Not sure why? There is a different action to the bait that’s for sure. We do a little work with skirts and hardware. I love titanium for a lot of situations. Slow rolling I don’t like how a titanium bends and stretches. But that’s just me. Have also found the bigger pike seem to like the slower baits at times and that could be a factor for the attraction to steel when fishing specifically for pike. Most of that’s early season so that’s to be expected with the slow roll.

Maybe its because steel is thicker so might give off more flash? Who knows, pike are weird.

X2 pike are weird. Blue fox use to make a big bass Roland Martin spinner bait, with a big willow leaf, that was a good pike bait.

Thanks for the input guys, I believe I had bought the Terminator Titanium spinners from a discount bin at Gander. At almost $10 a throw I will put them thru the test this June and keep the pieces this time…

Found a few spring cleaning and a picture of one of the culprits…The tail is on the right, the head is in the cabbage to the right of the binocs
