With a bass trip looming in a few weeks to Pick Wick Lake, I am getting ready early this year…My usual Bassin won’t start until opening day (MI) the last Sat in May. We are not allowed to CPR (target) bass before then.
    I have modified my approach for the 2013 season…for guiding and tournaments. On the deck I’ll have;

7’4″ MLXF Drop Shot Spin rod, also hair jigs
7’4″ MHF casting…Wacky, Shaky, finesse worm, spinnerbaits
7’4″ HF casting..Jig/craw, T Rigs, Senkos, swim jigs
    7’6″ MHF casting.. C-rigs
    7’9″ MHXF ” ” .. Fip/pitch/smaller swim baits
6’8″ MHModF……. Jerk baits, topwaters, smaller cranks
7’6″ MHModF……. all my other cranking
    7’0″ HvyXF……… Rojas Frog Rod

    How about you guys?

Tom, I’m anxious to hear how you do on Pickwick. I too have been contemplating an early spring bass fishing trip for a couple years now. I have a daughter at Mizzou so have thought about going down to see her and going to Lake of the Ozarks for a day or two on either side. I had also been thinking about going to Dale Hollow for some smallmouth this March but I think my dad is getting to the age that trip would be too difficult and my boys are in school. I’ve also heard great things about Pickwick and will be curious to get your thoughts on the quality of fishing in the spring. Have a great time…

We were extremely lucky to get a day of Guiding with Steve Hacker. He is THE MAN for Wilson, Pick Wick, and Wheeler Lakes… Former B.A.S.S. tournament Pro.

Very informative website…check out the loads of 6 to 7.5 lb Smallies in the photo gallery. Not to mention 30-40# Stripers on Zara Spooks!

Tom when will you be on Pickwick?? I will be there May 4th for the FLW College fishing tournament.

As for rods this is what I have.. I think

7’MHXF casting…. spinnerbaits, jigs, t-rig.. all around good rod for anything

7′ MH F casting.. Little stiffer tip than the above rod.. use it for jigs and t-rig plastics.

6’8″ spinning, shakey head, drop shot, anything else finesse.

7’2″ MH F casting.. It acts more like a moderate action so I use it for cranks of any kind.

7′ XH casting.. flipping- pitching, some frogging.

will probably be adding a few more before the year is over.
These also are just 5 of the ones I have ready to go I have others.
