So now that the ice is here and the bass season officially over … a good time to look back on the season and what worked best. Am wondering as far as smallmouth, what were your two best lures for the year and where/when it worked for you?

    For me the two were:

    1) Mimic minnow/spinners on Waubay Lake in South Dakota in late May.

    2) Blue/silver Rattle Trap on the upper Mississippi with Guide Joe Scegura in the Fall.

A 3″ white grub or 4″ chartreuse sparkle ringworm fishing for walleye. Pesky little bass-turds wouldnt leave me alone all year long.

Jimmy D’s Riverbug jigs are my go-to lure on the Mississippi river and in Canada.

I like the Rebel Pop-R in silver/black and a watermelon 5″ Yum Dinger on a 3/0 Tru turn hook.

Also, added a few SMB we caught last yr on Mille Lacs.

Is that Flicker Shad size the 1-5/8 inch size?

nham, what size smallies did you typically see in Pool 1 in the summer? How deep do you find the fish? Yo-Zuri looks deadly…

Live Target Gizzard Shad – lipless. Every body of water I have been on that holds smallies, all spring, summer, and fall.

White Spinnerbait, single hammered nickel, CO style blade, and 7″ worm trailer.

Smithwick Rattlin’ Rogue – Topwater/Injured presentation or trolling at night along shallow breaks.

Best fish on the Spinnerbait – 19.5″
Best fish on the Smithwick – 20.5″
Time on the Water – About 14-16 days chasing, all seasons combined.
