I caught a northern up there on Mille lacs a couple of weekends ago, it had a large open wound on it’s side just like the one pictured.

Had seen earlier posts about big white sores appearing on smallmouth bass on Mille Lacs. Yikes ~

No…the Lake Mille Lacs smallies are showing, some years more so than others, sores/whitish areas behind their head on their back. The sores are from “fish lice”–NOT diving into rocks for crayfish etc. as many think. It is common for the walleyes to have these “lice” also. Some years the walleyes have the same bloody sores behind their heads–even on the mudflats, lol, where there are no rocks for them to be diving into for crayfish. This year, the lice on the smallies was more obvious than others. More lice…more of a sore/bloody spot behind the head–less lice some years–no sore. (if you look closely, you can see the “lice” crawling on the sore area behind their head.

Very normal–not an issue–has been a part of the scene here for as many years as I can remember.

You can verify this with any area fishery biologist.

I saw a Pike up on the big “V” that had something just like that all over it’s tail.

It looked like the tail was rotted off
