How to rig an open face for FB Jigs

    I have a 6′ 6” shimano rod with a shimano symetry reel and am wondering if i can put something together out of them to make a football jig rod. Anyone know what kind of line to use on an open face rather than a baitcaster so it doesn’t coil off the spool? Thanks

    20# cajun Braid, barrel, 20″ floro leader and 3/8 football!!!

    Close your bail by hand in lieu of with the crank and a quick pull of the line to make it taunt before reeling anything up. That will take any loops out of the line.

    How heavy an action is the rod? It needs to be at least a MH action for 1/2oz and bigger FB head jigs or you’ll have trouble setting hooks.I agree 20or30lb braid w/a flro leader 17/20#,in real clear water you may want to try 12#or 14#flro just rety more often.
