Can someone please tell me the most effective way to work a football jig on the bottom for LMB? What do you think the bass would prefer, jigging it up and down or dragging it across the bottom?

Footballs are mainly used on harder bottom surfaces, if your fishing weeds the shaky head will be best, I’m always fishing weedlines for bass and use shaky head or spot remover jig with shaky worm.

Getting back to how you should work the jig, let the fish tell you, sometimes jig it hard then rest couple seconds, sometimes leaving the jig still on the bottom up to ten seconds gets you fish, leave it motionless, it works when the bass are really finicky.

I make a LONG cast let it hit bottom
then crawl it until I hit something (rock, wood, weed stalk etc.
then pause and lightly shake it pause then crawl to the next
    obstruction
when you feel a tug set the hook HARD

I Drag them on flatter bottom and jig them when fishing log laydowns…Swim jig type heads go thru weeds much better than footballs.

How would you fish them on a wing dam?

Drag, then hop over rocks when you feel them.
