What would be a good gear ratio for a shimano curado set up on a 7′ medium heavy st croix mojo bass rod? I suppose I will be using it for jigs, topwater, and spinnerbaits. But more jigs than the others. Thanks

Higher speed, 7:1, that would cover all three applications, just slow down for the jigs.

I fish almost all my reels in the highest speed gear ratio available. You can always slow down with the highspeed reels. But it really tough to speed up a low Ratio reel. Anything in the 6 or 7 to 1 Ratio should work great for you. The curado is a excellent choice for a reel as well. I’ve got some that are over 10 years old and still going strong.

If you already have a couple of the 7:1 reels, I personally would get the 6:1 or 6:4:1, can’t remember which speed they are or if they have both. I do like having a few reels with slower speeds just for the applications that require it, mainly crankbaits. All my crankbait rods have either a 5:3:1 or 6:4:1 Curado or Revo on them. The rest of my rods have either a high speed (7:1) or 6:4:1 reel.

Anybody know of an inexpensive, but good quality baitcasting reel that permorms well? I am matching it up with a 7′ medium-heavy St Croix mojo bass rod. Thanks

I have several of the Diawa Excellers in different ratios and really like them. I don’t think you can get a better casting reel for less than $100.
