Daily Fishing Routine?

I go fishing at the break of dawn(5:30AM) every morning at a nearby pond that has clear water and lots of weeds. I start off every morning by throwing topwater spooks and frogs. Lately, the topwater bite has been VERY sluggish and it seems rare to catch a bass on it right now. I then switch to brush hogs on the bottom with a 1/8th oz bullet weight and end up missing a whole handful of bites. (I don’t know if the bites are from sunnies pecking at the brush hog, or if they are bass sucking the bait into their mouth and I just ain’t setting the hook hard enough). Anyways, I want to ask IDOFISHING if there is something I am doing wrong or if there are any different types of baits to use right now? Thanks

Can you post a pic of how your rigging your brush hogs?

So now, what color of buzzbaits should I have in my tackle box. I only have a Black Booyah one and a Northland Black/Red one. And what should I do in the wind? Do buzzbaits still work when its 20mph wind out of the South?

If the pond is small they may be getting conditioned to what you’re throwing at them/how you’re throwing to them.

Sometimes you need to switch it up until you find what’s working. This can apply to retrieve speed/action as well as lure selection.

When I was doing some work in Alabama our building had a barge slip so I could fish during the breaks and the fish there hung around. At first I could get them on a fluke twitched like usual but eventually it would get no reaction or negative reaction but I found that if I reeled it in fast on the surface they would go after it…until they got used to that…

I fished a golf pond when I was a kid and it was around the time rattle traps became popular. Well I wore them out for a good year or two and after that you couldn’t get bit on a trap for the rest of the time I fished those ponds.

First is buzzbaits, then spooks and poopers, then cranks off the weedlines, then jigs and softbaits… at least that’s what I go by and a friend told me the same. Take it as you may…

I’m somewhat sorry to say but I’m interested in how you rig your pooper

I’d try a swim jig or a jig worm if the weed cover is not to thick

How to post pics on IDO click here.

If you are hitting this pond every morning would is it possible that you have these fish conditioned? Not sure how big of a pond you are talking about.

How much does the gas cost to drive “round-trip” to go to a store to purchase these items….and what if they don’t have what you want in stock? You may live live next door to Cabelas, but it costs me over $5.00 plus my time to just driving into walmart…let a lone a real sporting goods store.

I agree, I always get a kick out of people complaining about shipping fees, especially when they are only purchasing 15-20 bucks worth of merchandise

I hate to say it but I do most all my lure shopping on line these days – I got tired of going to a so called sporting store ( Gander, [censored], Ect. ) and them having nothing I want or use. I am not sure who the buyers are for these stores but I don’t think they are fishermen. A great online store for bass lures is http://www.tacklewarehouse.com – The offer free shipping on orders over 50.00 and cheap shipping on orders less. Great site with great service.

As mentioned above, given that you have a pond enviroment, your probably conditioning the fish by hitting it everyday and using the same things. I’m sure you could use nearly anything and catch them until they are conditioned to that bait…then switch again. As an example, a pond that I had fished many years ago. K&E pre-rigged worms in black was the hottest thing you could throw….then it just shut off! I changed to purple, and was on fire again. Shortly after that, couldn’t catch a fish on purple, changed to red, and back in business! Point is a small population can get conditioned quickly. Keep changing it up with baits that fit the situation, and you’ll do well

Has anybody used a ChatterFrog before? If so can you tell me the most effective way to fish it?
