Thinking about trying the South end rock piles for Smallmouth this weekend. Have never targeted Smallmouth on Mille Lacs but would love to try it.

I have a lakemaster chip to find the rocks but wondering if anyone can share the closest place to launch, any patterns, expectations I should have??

I haven’t fished them to much up there but I know I had a fun day once when the walleyes weren’t bitten too well.
I just let out about 50 yards of line and trolled the south rocks in 8-10 ft With a kvd 1.5 and caught so many giant smallmouth I lost count. They’re like footballs up there… Only bigger

Cedar Creek Access as well as the access in Isle. Both are close to more rock reefs than you can fish in a day. You don’t need a chip because the DNR is nice enough to buoy most of the spots out there but because you have one you can locate the deeper unmarked reefs that hold fish that don’t see as many lures.

Lures are as easy as finding the reefs. Most anything will work. Spinnerbaits, Senkos, tubes, Mepps spinners, crankbaits, topwater poppers, and buzzbaits all have put fish in my boat. Now finding the exact color combination
that they are looking for might take some time.
The key to finding the smallies is being to keep moving from reef to reef until you find an active school.
