I have heard that using tubes on the bottom is a good way to catch bass when they are not biting aggresively. Unfortunately, I haven’t used them much before when targeting bass so I dont know how to rig them. Can someone please tell me the most effective way to rig a hollow- bodied tube? Also the best kind/color and size. Thanks

    Slip sinker – bullet

3/0 Eagle Claw Clip Hook –

That way you will always have a piece of the plastic – holding the tube in position.

    Enjoy

    Here is the hook-

    Actually works very well

Fishing Hooks >> Worm Hooks >> EAGLE CLAW L150HP SHAW GRIGSBY HOOKS
Eagle Claw L150HP Tube Skirt Hook

    Order # 820470
The Eagle Claw L150HP Shaw Grigsby keeper hook is a great choice for rigging tube skirts. The wire clip keeps your tube in place on the hook. Extra wide hook gap delivers maximum hook penetration. Lazer Sharp point, Black finish.

I like the insider tube jigs. Northland makes a nice one with red hook

You can either texas rig, or use a tube jig that you put inside the tube and pop the eye of the jig through the side of the tube.
Bill taylor showed me that eagle claw tube hook when we were at kentucky lake, and they work well.
You can buy cheap tube jigs out of bins, or if you want ones with better hooks buy the smaller packs of them which may come with gammy hooks or some other brand.

I think if you are flipping/pitching in cover, texas rig the tube. If you are casting or dragging more open water use the tube jig, many people do this for smallmouth.

I like to rig like i am riging a sinko for skiping. Hook Inserted through the nose and out down the side of the body, but before you insert the hook into the body push a bullet weight into the hollow cavity all the way to the nose. Then insert hook into lower part of tube rig so its weedles and you can through it any where, skip it, flip it or deep water drag it

Rigging is really dependant upon your application. As mentioned above, there are multiple ways to rig, and all have their place.

Two things I do differently – I like the Gamakatsu Skip-Gap hooks for tubes. The additional bend in the hook really helps in securing the tube so it doesn’t slide down the shank after a fish or two.

Next when texas rigging, I like to peg my weight a few inches above the tube, and insert a piece of foam inside the head of the tube. The little extra amount of buoyancy gives it a great slow action on tough days.

Either the inner tube jigs like mentioned but for Texas rigging I like taking a casting sinker usually 1/4 oz and push it all the way to the front of the tube. Then rig like you normally would Texas rig a tube but make sure when you go through the front of the tube you also go through the eye of the casting sinker.. In one of the finesse bass fishing videos I have the guy talks about it. I’ll try to find a YouTube clip and post or just post pics of what I’m talking about.
