I was fishing for early Walleye with my good friend Pete Yake. We had some very good luck early (6AM) but the dam flow shut down and so did the bite.
We came to a rip rap rock shoreline and I decided to cast a jig/ringworm looking for possible shallow walleye. I was only a few reel turns into my retreive when I had a sharp “tap” on the line…I set the hook with the LC 66MF spin rod..It fought deep and strong, headshaking like a big walleye. When it came to the net we were both amazed at the girth and broad shoulders of the mega smallie! She is starting to fill out but it will be a while before she is ready to drop eggs. She taped 23” and 17.5” girth… My friend Dell (DNR fisheries biologist ret)
calculated her at 7.5 to 7.75 lbs… She is back swimming and I am going to get a repo mount… What an Easter Blessing!
