I have not used or had much success fishing a Carolina Rig. Curious what setup everyone here uses? Rod, Main line, Leader line, Hook, Length of leader, Type of bait, Ect.

I have never used a carolina rig. I have always felt that working a drop shot is more effective and if i want to drag something on the bottom I will do it with a jig. Just my two cents.

I haven’t used the carolina rig a lot so take with a grain of salt.

I used a 7′ MH with PP and a 7.5′ flipping stick with 20# mono. Went with a 1.5 to 3′ 10# mono leader most often, to a worming hook and whatever I thought would do the trick.

I also use a light carolina rig sometimes, 7′ M spinning rod spooled with PP to a light sinker and 8 or 6# mono leader same lengths and the rest downsized.

If you check out youtube there are some good videos on there about it.

    7’3″ MH fast tip rod
    1/2-1oz egg
    fluro line and leader 12lb
    leader 12-24in
    Gammagatsu EWG 3/0-7/0
    craws,beavers,lizards, 8-10in worms, 4″ tubes and flukes
they work great shallow yo deep
they let you map out the bottom and catch a TON of fish

for a setup i would go with any rod that is at least 7′ or longer and has to have at least a power of medium-heavy. when making longer casts i love to have a longer rod, but a 7′ mh seems to do ok. with line i would think that water clarity and cover dictate the lbs of line to use. i usually use at least a 14lbs for the main line. the carolina rig is a good backup to a football head jig. I like to use it out on hard spots or areas were there is sparser weed cover. the heavier the weight used the slower and more finesse a angler has to fish it. i drag it much like a football head unless the fish are suspended.

It is a rig that you can only fish in the state of Carolina – So don’t use them here

My go to rod is a BCR874GLX usually spooled with 17 lb fluorocarbon. Unless I am fishing a river, I tie on 30-36″ leader in either 15 or 12 lb fluoro with a 3/0 or 4/0 Gamakatsu. 3/4 oz brass (or tungsten if I am feeling rich) with a tungsten bead above the swivel. The sky is the limit on bait selection.

Good comparison…Carolina rigs are similar to a “pegged” bullet weight Texas rig. You generally use a 1/2-3/4oz brass bullet weight with the running line through that and a glass bead…then tied to a crane swivel. I tie about a 3′ flouro leader to the lead end of the swivel , which I attach my hook and plastic choice, usually a big worm or salamander.

I find a 7+ MHF rod to work well with the Carolina rig…Like a Dobyns 734…

The weight/bead gives off some sound to attract Bass… These rigs can be cast a mile to cover lots of water and especially deep water.

How fast do you guys reel in with a C-rig? Do you pause very often?

I just bought a 7’6″ mh mf rage for c riggin. Usually throw17 lb flouro with 10 lb mono and as light wire a hook as i can. The mono and the light wire hook i feel let the bait float better.
