What line does everyone use when throwing Jig and pig type of Jigs Or other types of pitching baits? I use to use 50 Lb. Powerpro since most all my jig fishing was either in the foil or in heavy cover – Last year I switched over to Fluro in 30 Lb. test and I think I caught more fish and did not break off more than a few times. Just currious what Type and size line everyone else is using?

My go to jig/craw rod is a 7’4″ Med with 10# flouro…The heaviest cover anywhere near here is cabbage weeds…My “heavy” flippin rig is a 7’3″ MHF with 17# flouro…

I have been using 65 power pro for heavy cover and 14 lb fluro for lighter cover. The only time I use the 65 is in heavy pads and bull rushes.

20lb. trilene XT. Although next week on lake fork it’ll be 25XT and maybe some 65lb. power pro added in.

I think I’m going to try 20lb. Invizx this year, but isn’t fluoro that is that heavy tough to cast?

I haven’t had a lot of experience with fluoro, but I used 17lb. vicious last year and remember having a tough time with backlash, even with line conditioner. Maybe I just need more practice.

    Red,

Which vicious were you using? I havnt used the new elite fluorocarbon but I used the old stuff and it was just junk…the seaguar products have a much smaller diameter and is a much smoother casting line. Give it a try I think you’ll be very pleased.

I’ve had both 17&20# visious floro and its way too stiff and unmanagable, the visious pro elite is much softer and handles way better,I’ve used 17# pro and it’s real decent,I use 12&14 too and like it all.

It was the vicious pro that I had, I used 12lb. on my cranking rod and it worked great. 17lb. I had a little tougher time with. I bought a 200 yd spool and split it up so i would get three respools out of it.
The second and third time I spooled up the line broke mid cast, after being freshly spooled. There must have been some weak spots from production is the only way I could explain it.

Tackletour.com has some interesting statistics from a study they did on fluorocarbon a few years ago.

TT did a real good job with that review. Parts 1 and 2 are definitely worth reading. Like Jon mentioned, Seaguar makes quality fluorocarbon across the board with Invizx and Abrazx. Sunline also makes great fluorocarbons as well as monos and their FX2 braid. If you’re willing to spend some buck, check out Sunline Shooter. I love the stuff!
