I had a chance to play hooky today and at the last minute decided to grab the fly rods and head for my favorite East Metro Bass lake. The water temps were 63-64 degrees, the weeds are dying off fast, and it was kind of windy. It was also obvious that a lot of other guys had the same idea I did, it was busy out there!
There wasn’t much of anything happening in the shallows. All the action was happening in 10 to 12 feet of water right in the deep weeds. To reach those fish I had to resort to a 10 foot, type 6 sink tip and weighted flies. When I changed flies to a Chartruese Clouser Minnow the action really picked up. With the heavy tip and all that wind it was really tough casting. I ended up catching about a dozen Bass and a few Sunnies.
If the bottom falls out in the next few days I can say I ended the warm water fly fishing season on a high note.
