9/8/11 Smallmouth outing
——————————————————————————–
My good friend Rich came up from Palatine Illinois to fish the annual UP Bass Championship this weekend…but we snuck off Thursday afternoon to a Fed Forest lake for a shot at a big early fall Bronzeback.
A strong NE wind made for some tough fishing… Started a 4:20 PM and got skunked until 6:45 when the wind finally died… Not a bite on all the regular offerings or normal spots.
Rich tied on a light Green Lake Fork Craw Tube and cast up on the rock bar (we were about to abort) and bang! a 17” sucked it in and we broke the ice. 15 minutes later another about 13”. OK… I would like to try one please… My second cast and a fat 18” nailed it…. then a 15” …. COOL! … Last cast (again) Rich does another good hookset on this gorgeous 18.5”… beautiful brown color. 6 bass in 45 minutes!
We both used EX69MLXF and LTBS 70MF rods with 8# fluoro…
They really started tearing up the surface as we pulled the boat out… I love this place!
