Moose and I went back to a new Smallie lake (Smokey Lake)today… A cold front had gone through and T storms were a hazard… We fished the pre storm waters for about 2 hours with only one lost fish… We left the rock/rubble for some deep wood structure. We threw everything ay them, including Tubes, Jigs and Senkos…NADA
I rigged a St. Croix EX 69MLXF DropShot rod with 6# Flouro and a Revolution Baits 4″ Melon Stinger… worked it slow on the 16’ break towards the boat in 29 fow… The unmistakable “TICK” of a Smallie enhaling the Stinger and the fight was on!!! A deft sweep of the net and its picture time for a Mega Chunk Smallie!!! The best feature of this technique is all these bass have the 1/0 Gamakatsu right in the upper lip!!
Not two casts later its twin hit at the boat in 27 fow… same Stinger… My buddy Moose had one pop his Stinger when the rain, lightning and thunder drove us off… Still better than sitting home in front of the tube…

Tom! Those are some good looking smallies. I caught a little smallie on Pool 2 today and named it “Roy”..
… It makes sense. You just have to know your MN Twins history.

Great pics Tom. Now I have to find my. drop shot stuff I bought 3 years ago and apparently was intrigued by some other sparkly bass lure. Lol

I’ve learned to fish the DS slow…The past few weeks I’ve been working this the bass are holding at the bottom of fairly steep sloping shorelines with wood or large rocks.
Be sure to watch/feel as the rig drops to the bottom…I’ve already had several hit it on the way down.

Drop shot seems to do best keeping it still. Drives me nuts as I always want to keep moving. Great technique for the right times. Nice brownies!
