I’ve fished with a WIDE variety of slop frogs throughout the years. I’ve finally found one that I can honestly say I’ll (probably)never fish with….

    Deps Slither K

I soft-bodied frog for $19.99…..nope, not gonna happen. Unless of course I find them 75% off retail….

With a frog that expensive I can see the Pike lining up at the door waiting to be the first to ruin it.

That is exactly the same thing I said. 4 casts into it and a pike either takes it or shreads it into 6 pieces. All of Deps products are high priced so when I saw it I wasnt surprised. Dan

Let’s look at technique. Got to wait a bit to set hook. Hmmmm…. any bulky old thing like a yum craw would work for pennies. Glad I don’t bass fish.

Yikes. These people must fish in water where teeth don’t exist.

I bought a Spro and it made it thru about an hour on the pool 4 backwaters, then the line got cut. But not before it resembled the rubber tail on a bass jig.

In your opinion Tom, what is the best frog out there, hook up wise?

Hollow bodied frogs? My favorite was the Swamp Donkey made by Reaction Innovations. Unfortunately those are no longer in production.

For ‘Top End’ frogs, I like Optimum Furbit Frog or the Optimum Poppin Frog. These are about as expensive as I’ll go for frogs.

The Bobbys Perfect Frog is a good mid-range bait. It’s well built and catches fish. I have a number of these.

Another great frog is the Spro Dean Rojas Bronzeye Frog, as well as the Spro Dean Rojas Bronzeye Poppin Frog. The poppin’ frogs I personally like to throw in areas that aren’t heavily weeded over. Sparse pads, eel grass in current and even wingdams are great places to use these.

Keep in mind, this is my own personal preference. Others may have different views on this subject. There’s a few brands out there that I haven’t fished with, just as there’s also a few brands I choose not to fish with. The Deps brand for obvious reasons….and the Scum Frog line up. The Scum Frog brand to me doesn’t have the weight I like and I’m not real keen on the eyelet placing. It rides at a downward angle and to me it burrows into the weeds. Something a frog shouldn’t do.

If you’re missing fish, you can make adjustments to the hooks by opening them up with pliers. It doesn’t take much to improve the hookup ratio. I typically open the hooks up about an 1/8th of an inch. That’s just enough to make a can’t catch frog into a can’t miss frog.

I recently bought a handful of the new KVD sexy frogs and so far I’m very pleased. The color and quality of the plastic is good with some very nice details incooperated also. The hook up ratio has been great for me and sometimes its hard to get the hooks out and I like that the best . I have put them through a day long slopfest with no complaints. They’ll fit nicely right along with my spro’s. Dan

To me a spro is tough to beat, but this year I’ve given the koppers live target frogs a shot and I’m real pleased with them. I think the hookup may even be better than a spro (for me atleast) they are super soft out of the package and are a very realistic looking frog. Both have been very reliable for me

Ouch! Last time I paid that much for a piece of plastic was on a trip to Vegas, but that’s a story for another time and place.
