Watching bits coming out of ICAST the rod manufacturers are definitely adding lines of Micro and Semi micro guide rods to their products… incl St Croix (Rage series), Dobyns, and others. The W&McGill Reese honeycomb construction, micro guide casters were solid sellers last year and they expanded the line for 2012.
I have been trying a 7′ Finesse/Fluke micro model for a couple months now and find ZERO fault with this rod… I am using 10# Sufix Flouro and fishing Finesse Jigs, Tubes and Senkos with solid performance from this $99 rod…
The chunky girl in the photo didn’t know it was a “cheap” rod…
I’m Looking forward to checking out the new Rage rods by St.Croix and new Dobyns Micros in the Savvy line… Sept 2011…

Are you talking about micro guides for the “line guides” or the rods in general? Personally, I wouldn’t buy a rod with micro guides because they tend to freeze-up very easily. At least that’s been my experience with the ice fishing rods. I don’t think they would work that good in winter fishing conditions.

The question I had was not about ice fishing, but fishing with rods that have small micro guides in freezing weather…
The new micro rods themselves are great. They are ultra light, ultra sensative, and seemingly perfecly balanced with when fixed with the right reels. Like I said though, I’m personally not too fond of the small micro guides.

In Mich we cannot fish bass in freezing weather unless it is through the ice…
Bass season here opens the last Sat in May and the micro guides are awesome…less line slap, less weight on the blank, and a more sensitive action.

This was posted in the Bass section…

Tom…I gained a lot of weight since my Aug heart problems and Jan surgery…still trying to get it back off…

Ticker issues here as well. No knives yet, but I know about the weight.

A huge advancement will be when the American Tackle contract expires for the exclusive rights to a certian rod manufacture. The titanium series from American Tackle are by far the best on the market. Once other rod manufactures can use them, the quality will only skyrocket up. Unfortunately, the majority of the ones used by most are a cheaper version and a lot heavier. If you think you used great rods with micro now, your in for a surprise in the next couple of years

I’m thinking St. Croix is going to semi micros Randy…There are some good zirconium micros out there (Kigan). Rumor has it Fuji is working on them too…
