Topwater Yet Anywhere?

Very frustrating year on my cabin lake in NW Wi. Top water still not doing anything. I dont know if the fishing has gotten that bad (I suspect this is much of it) or ?

Anyone else not seeing topwater action where/when they have seen it in years past?

Topwater is really slow this year, probably because of the late winter. Last year I was catching bass on topwater frogs in late april… this year they started about 2 weeks ago.

Lot’s of surface activity the last few time out – I have not thrown any topwater yet. May have one tied up for the next outing.

Haven’t tried yet, but we’ll be at our cabin Thursday-Sunday and I will definitely be throwing some Pop-Rs.

I’ve been doing pretty well with topwaters since Bass opener. It all happens around sunrise for about an hour and then it’s over with, but the numbers have been there. I just haven’t found many fish of any size yet. Best fish with the flyrod this year is 19 inches. The weeds aren’t up like they usually are and I think that is having a big effect on location.

Bass were hitting Scum Frog’s up in Ottertail Co. near Battle Lake, MN early last week and a few Tubes I was swimming and then pulling over some pads.

I have tried two different frogs for about a month with no hits. I used a Rage Shad green and chartreuse today. First two casts resulted in two bass on the edge of a pad field.

Aside from frogs in slop, it’s been a crappy year for me on topwater on the river, just like last year.

I was working up near little falls, mn last two weeks and fished the evenings and just killed the bass on a spro frog!
