I’m having a issue keeping fish hooked up on the Standout hook that i’ve been using the last 2 seasons for dropshotting. Currious what hooks others are using. Also have heard that you should not Set the hook with dropshot’s – just start reeling. What do you do? All fish hooked recently rocket strait up – no matter what I try ( lesson the pressure on the line, put the rod tip into the water, ect ) just can not keep the fish from jumping!!!! – Have had mixed results with the same hooks in the past – I’m either keeping every fish hooked or every other fish is getting Off – Right now it’s every other fish getting off. Going to try the Trokar hook next time out – Spendy $$$$ but if they work I’m willing to pay the price.

Can you post a picture of this hook?

    I use a #1 gammy drop-shot hook with great results….

I use a 3/0 and i let them take it for a while before i set the hook. I have always set the hooks on drop shots.

I use the gamie too and the owner mosqueto hook ,I use 1 &1/0 for small mouth and 3/0 for large mouths typicaly use a bigger bait then. I sweep set and load up solid more reel than rod presure, sm jump a lot so keep solid presure using a med 7′ or ml 7′ rod I like my 7’m better Stan

Big fan of the size 2 Stand out hook….but only the black…not the red. Rarely miss a fish or have one throw it…..Turn sideways with your hips and you will have a near perfect hookset each time.

try a #1 or 1/0 Owner Mosquito hook. My personal preference for drop shotting is a shorter rod (6’3″ MXF) coupled with braid and a fluoro leader. As far as a hookset goes, I basically pull back against the resistance of the fish when I feel them there and start reeling about as fast as I can.

Another picture with it rigged – I use a strait tail worm most of the time

I picked up a package of the Trokar Drop shot hook last night – Look just like the gamakatsu one shown – may give them a try tonight. Will let you know how they work
