Me and my Grandfather were out on this nice body of water about a week ago. We were looking for smallies as we had heard they got to be very nice size. We were only able to haul one in and it was about 3 pounds. Not trying to snag any spots but does anyone have any idea where these beautiful fish hide??
    Thanks

I’ve found most of smallies out there this year in 12-15fow, on rocks with cabbage. Good Luck!

A Denny’s tournament was held out there on the 18th of June and the top bags were all dominated by smallies, but none of the top 5 teams had a 4lb fish. It wouldn’t surprise me if that was a bed fishing deal. My bass club had a tournament on Ida in mid July in 2009 and I’m pretty sure not one of the 114 fish weighed was a smallie. We only had 1 fish over 4lbs that day, but it was a 6-6. That quite possibly could have been the biggest bass in the whole lake.

Ida does have some really nice smallmouth but after the spawn they are rather hard to target and locate – They tend to move around a lot during the summer months. If you find one there should be more in the area. Deep weedpoints and rocks with a dropshot is your best bet.
