Hey guys would like some input on a spear for spearing. How many tines should a guy go with a 5,6 or a 7 tine spear? Thanks in advance

I use my grandpa’s old five tine spear. I don’t see the need for a larger one unless your aim isnt all that great

I am a fan of 7 tine spears. My two favorite spears are an old Brainerd spear and a SS Amish. Watch for the spearing haters on this forum, however…

    LOL! They are everywhere!

I have dad’s homemade spear. I’m thinking I should sell it ’cause I would be very surprised I’ll ever go spearing again. Not a hater. I enjoyed it when I was doing it.

Although it sits on the wall in the garage, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling each time I look at it. No, it’s not time to sell ol’ trusty yet.

Not a hater. I love spearing. Next to deer hunting I live for that time in the spear shack. I have the Amish spear. I highly recommend it!! If I could justify having another I’d get the SS model. You won’t be disappointed in the Amish spear

Have a 7 tine spear. seems right size. if buying one get a good one something with some weight. Its not something where you get a new one every few years. if you have one you like you’ll have it for a long time.

where can someone get the amish spear?

I bought mine at sportsman Warehouse when they were in existence. Seen them at the Alexandra decoy show. Also the last time I was at the ice show they had them. Not sure who actually carries them now!

Cannon Tackle Supply gets a decent amount of them every year. Check with your small baitshop in town, they most certainly can order one from them for you. I have also seen a person or two selling Amish spears on Craigslist. Very good quality for the price. Like Slipbob said, get a good one and you won’t ever need to buy another. I’m not huge into the sport, but it is something I enjoy doing every winter. It’s like deer hunting…but fishing…but still hunting…

once you get the spear house setup its tough to get the angling equipment out.

no need to wake up early or stay out late and the same excitement as deer hunting
