Speakers ain't working…

There are times when I question my the decisions I’ve made in life and how those decisions have led me to where I am now, and this is one of them. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to make the speakers in my new-to-me Alumacraft Trophy work. It’s a 2012.

The stereo is a Boss Marine model. It gets power, receives a radio signal, beeps when the buttons are pushed, etc.

But I can’t get the speakers to work. Is there a fuse that might be the problem? An on/off switch somewhere? Some obvious-to-other-people button I’m missing? It’s not the mute button because I can turn that on/off. I talked to the previous owner, and he said they worked when he had it out last — two years ago. The manual doesn’t help, at least as far as I can tell.

Thanks for any tips. And please don’t tell anyone you saw me here.

Do you have a selector that says A / B ? could be on the wrong one.

    What/Where is a selector?

Selector, switch, button anything to indicate a way to switch from front to rear speakers.

Check connections in the back. Also like Dutch mentioned the A/B switch could be incorrect, it’s likely somewhere in the settings. Doubtful there are fuses on the audio side of the stereo.

    What’s the model number?

So it’s not the volume…it only goes to Level 46, and I keep it in the 30’s while fiddling, which should be high enough to hear.

I’ll look specifically for an A/B switch, and I’ll check the manual when I get home for the model number.

What you might find is that the A/B switch is called a fader too.
Do you have more than 2 speakers? If you have 4 then I doubt it would have anything to due with the fader.

If maybe you have only 2 speakers hooked up, then the fade may be adjusted all the way in the wrong direction.

Play with the fade and balance.

I cycled through the settings (for the umpteenth time), and everything was set at “normal.” I moved everything one way or the other, then back the other way, then back to normal, with no success.

The boat only has two speakers, both located under the left and right consoles.

I’ll check for a fader next.

both of the speakers on my starcraft were shot, like yours the stereo would light up,cycle through the stations etc.
I removed both of the speakers and wired up a spare I had laying around to test both sides, sure enough both were bad.

if you have a voltmeter, set it to AC and see if anything happens when you look across the speaker terminals. The reading will jump all over the place but at least then you’ll know if there’s power coming out to the speakers.
