Ok. So any south shore fisherman here?

Port wing/herbster area. This is a area i want to try to learn a bit.. curious on how early in spring can a guy get a boat in. And if there are decent runs of coho and steelhead?? Or is it more of a lake trout brown trout area.

Any suggestions on timing and techniques appreciated.

    Thanx in advance

This year will be a little different due to all of the ice but those landing tend to open up faster then Rice’s or Loonfoot. The landing at Herbster is right on the lake and opens when the lake opens. Might have to keep an eye on Modis to see when the area is ice free. We have caught all that you mentioned and even a King or 2 but they seem to be rare in that area. We have caught some large Browns and Lakers while trolling for Cohos. Nice area with little traffic to contend with and the scenery is awesome.

I follow GLanger forum a lot for Superior and have done well in the spring. I usually launch from loons foot as it is closest to our cabin.

I also check the webcams constantly and will before I head up to check over conditions.
