South Metro Vet’s and Flea/tick/heartguard

Cant recommend a south metro vet but I order my Simparica Trio from budgetpetcare.com. Last time I ordered I don’t think they even asked for vet info to get a prescription. Shipping is slow from overseas but price is good. Other times I’ve ordered online I’ve just given the vets info for them to contact for a prescription. My vet has never required blood work for flea and tick.

We use VCA in Bloomington (88th & Lyndale). Not the cheapest nor the most expensive. Dr. Goetzke is a Springer fan and treats our dogs well.

We use Nexguard Spectra and am pleased with it.

We used Shakopee Vet and they were great, but a bit of a drive. Do not go to Smith Veterinary in Burnsville, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

I’ve been going to Shakopee Vet for 20+ years and have been very happy with their services. Regarding flea and tick, I’ve been giving my dogs Simparica Trio for the last few years and it’s been working very well.

We use Nexguard on our young dog and purchase it at the vet. I am going to try Chewy to save some money.
We still use Frontline for our older dog and can now purchase that at Petco.

My vet is not in your desired geography. I use Interceptor Plus for worms and Credelio for fleas/ticks. Vet said Credelio acts faster than others. Don’t know that for sure.
My old dog would eat all these meds without “hiding” it in anything. My current dog spits them out no matter what I put them in. I have to place at the back of his throat.

Thanks for the input. Ya I have never had to get a prescription for flea and tick meds, but heartworm meds it seems you have to have a prescription and at our current vet they require an annual blood draw before you can get the prescription.

Not near the cities but my Vet requires the blood test for heartworm drugs yearly. They will wave the test if you treat all 12 months of the year.

We go to pilot knob animal hospital in Eagan for all of it. They’re very good and we’re always satisfied. Bella loves going to see the girls there. Plus it’s close, right off diffley on pilot knob.

A buddy’s daughter is a vet. Her take is that the blood draw requirement is actually a money grab. The expressed concern is that if the dog has heartworm the ivermectin or other meds may cause the worms to convulse and kill the dog. Of course, if an infection is detected the treatment is ivermectin and it may cause the worms to convulse and kill the dog. It’s a risk that the vet treating heartworm infections calls out before treatment. She knows my dog, prescribes meds as needed.
