South Dakota prairie dogs

    Want to take a trip some weekend to go hunt prairie dogs any recommendations on where to go not looking for guided maybe public land just where to go. Thanks

    Contact a CO in SD, and ask if there is any preferred public land or BLM land that has an emphasis on taking PDs. My experience with asking COs in most states has been very good

    I have had very good luck straight west of Pierre. The ranchers are usually more than welcoming to PD hunters out there. Randy is correct, the ranchers talk to the CO’s, so if you give them a call, they will tell you which WIA’s are hot right now. About 5 years ago, we ran into a rancher on one of his access roads while we were shooting PD’s on his WIA and I thought he was going to get out and hug all three of us. Very welcoming folk out there if you are respectful.

    Been going around Wood S D but this spring most of the ranchers poison the dogs so also looking for new ground to shoot in 2018.
