Awesome hunt! But you should really clean the day old birds before the go bad… Unless those are ” make-up” birds.

The other reason you need to clean them each day, I believe, would be to easier prove that you are within your daily limit of 3 birds.

Where’d you end up going in SD? Public or Private? I had a good trip out there a few weeks ago, and have another trip coming up next week!

We gut em’ and keep em’ on ice in a cooler. They never ‘go bad’ as someone suggested. We end up taking a picture very similar to Yoshi’s at the end of the trip after unloading the cooler(s). Perfectly acceptable waytogo …RR

Kept them on ice in a big RTIC cooler (knock-off yeti) and left it outside at night. it was about 30 degrees at night. no make-up birds. we were hunting public land along the Missouri river. its the best trip I’ve had out there in a long time.

works to have a dog that loves to retrieve, it can be easy to lose some wounded birds in the cane and milo.

Public land along the river, started in Winner.. Its a longer haul but you don’t battle too many ppl on like on the border.

Good area for hunting! I’ll be in that same area next week for 4 days of hunting! I’m heading out one day earlier than the rest of our group and hunting some public, then a friends ranch for the next 3 days with some of my closest buddies.

Is it true a non-resident license is only good for two weeks out there?

    It is true.

    You have 2 – 5 day windows.

I am always unsure what weekend would be my second.. So they tell me to have Dec 28th as your second window and you can always change it back. If you choose a date and it happens to pass, you are out of luck.

    I hope that helps

My trip out there a few weeks ago, in the Platte area, was one of the best I’ve had for one day. We were able to hunt some pretty good private land that doesn’t get hunted too often. The first day 10 of us got our limit of 30. The 2nd day was on some different land and was a little bit of struggle, and poor shooting certainly didn’t help, 8 of us got 9.

Pheasant hunting is hands down my favorite recreation hobby to partake in!

That sounds like a great trip!!

My dogs often look at me and give me the, “why am I working this hard when you can’t do your job?”

Let us know how that works for your Pud. I’m worried the collar is too bulky for my dog as she is not built very big. But I want one the more I hunt and can’t see her.

I have a 40-50lb Springer and she doesn’t mind it. The collar actually weighs really close to the TriTronics system I was running with a upland beeper.

I’m sure you know but they do have a TT15 Mini for smaller dogs.

My first impressions of the unit are great. My wife and I own a couple acres in Savage with a wooded lot. Our dogs have run off when they get on some deer or turkeys, we obviously aren’t going to get a fence..

There is a geofence option where you can set it to your property and it will alert you once the dogs leaves the ‘geofence’. So it is a true multi-tasker in our household.
