4 days of work, a 6 hour drive and one last look at the trail camera chips on Friday night. My pictures of late aren’t very promising, but I’m super optimistic I’ll have some good encounters over the first 8 days of the season I get to hunt.

Who else is heading to SD or is in SD and pumped for the weekend?

We’re headed out to South Central SD on Thursday morning! It’s the trip I’ve been waiting for since this last spring. I lucked out getting onto this property, and it’s pretty awesome. My eyes and ears out in SD has been saying a huge 6×6 Muley and 2 solid 5×5 whitetails have been hitting a waterhole adjacent to a corn field during the daylight every evening. The problem is the south wind they have been talking about. It couldn’t be a worse wind for the evening. We may have to cut them off at the pass, going back to their bedding area in the morning.

    Should be an awesome trip!

Plans are in the works for a combo archery hunt for antelope and spot and stalk mule deer in NW part of SD with a cousin and friend. Looking like a very warm weekend!

Well, I’m in the NW metro now and Dad is 15 miles north of town. So, without any restroom breaks, it can be done under 6.

When I’m jacked about archery hunting… I make it in 5.

Well, as I sit here and wish the hours away, I can only imagine one of my hit list bucks is laying around in this heat, just waiting for a drink of water….

AND…………. I think my hit lister will probably just wait until after dark when it cools off to go get that drink!! Damn weather.

The winds are completely wrong for my stands. I’m probably going to be hunting mornings or sitting in the truck glassing the first couple days.

You should probably just stay home and do yard work. It will cool down in a couple weeks, then you can go hunt )

I hear you with the wrong wind! It’s blowing smack dab down the middle of the draw! ugghhh. We put eyes on a few bucks last night, some 115″ to low 120″ 8s and a few does but all in all movement was pretty slow!

Well I’m here. Cameras were promising. Mostly nocturnal of course but the big boy slips up occasionally. Now. With this strong east wind. Do I push my luck….trying to convince myself to be conservative….
