This past weekend I took my son out for his 2nd Wisconsin youth deer hunt. It was a great morning to get out and we saw several deer throughout the morning. We did have a nubbin buck come out in the field and graze by us about 2 yds from our tent setup. My son has never been that close to a deer before and was a fun experience to share with him. We also saw a doe with triplets which I have never seen before in the woods. Eventually by about 7:30am the deer activity slowed a little and was getting sunny out. I grabbed my rattling antlers and did 1 sequence of tine tickling to see if we could entice a buck to come check us out. At 8am the nubbin was back feeding in front of our tent again. Suddenly he ran out into the field and we were not sure why he did that. We looked to our left and noticed a buck heading out into the field to check out the nubbin buck. They were at about 100 yards and Zach got his gun ready, put it on the shooting sticks, settled in, and made a great shot. He didn’t go far and Zach had his 1st buck down. It was a great hunt and cannot wait to do it again.
