If it will stop or reduce the habitat destruction presently occurring, it should be an improvement. Also would be a good thing not to have someone riding thru the area in which you are deer hunting at the time.

In mn you can only run a wheeler from 11-2.
And I’m dead set against this. I should be allowed on state land with the taxes I pay!
And im not one of them guys that rip up trails.
Wow. I usually enjoy reading bills, and can be open minded. I don’t use an ATV and generally think the rules are too lose, but this is ridiculous. I would doubt it would make it very far, but keep an eye on it.

100% that is an absolutely ridiculous rule. What are they going to do next? Tell you when you can eat lunch and dinner during deer season?
Doesn’t MN make revenue selling an OHV sticker for automobiles to run certain dirt trails now?
Land of 10,000 Laws and counting… and the king of no fun land !!! People act like a mudhole is foreign to the lands. Ever see an Elk wallow ?

Am I missing something… Aren’t they called nonmotorized trails for a reason?
I’m sure it’s an unpopular opinion, but my tax dollars pay for that public land as well, and I like going out to the woods to get away from people. That includes not seeing signs of people(wheeler trails, trash, destroyed wetlands, etc), and hearing wheelers ripping around the woods all the time. Make designated areas for motorized vehicles, and leave the rest for everyone else. If you need an atv to get out and hunt make an exception for disabilities, health problems, and age similar to what crossbow hunting was and should still be in my opinion.

I agree 100 % with you on this.
One of the main reasons I would hunt wilderness areas in Co was to get away from the hordes of 4 wheelers that would be running around on forest service lands or blm lands.
I see plenty of 4 wheeler tracks in every state I hunt including MN in areas where they are not suppose to be driven.
Where are you getting that this bill is for non-motorized hiking trails? This is for Off Highway vehicle trails, and roads in state property.
And im not one of them guys that rip up trails.
Unfortunately there is a segment of folks that enjoy seeing how much havoc their ATV/OHV can inflict. Much of this occurs outside of any hunting season. It’s not really a “hunting” issue.
Seems to be a lot of confusion and conflicting info here. Would love more information on this bill.
I read it as restricting atv/motorized vehicles use to only designated atv trails. Right now there’s a pile of “use trails” on state forest land that aren’t officially atv trails and would be shut down by this bill. I might be completely off, that’s just my initial interpretation – I’d love to hear from someone who better understands this.
The current law is atv’s can only be used during rifle season from 11-2 and before/after shooting hours, right? That’s current, not part of the bill – right?

Yes, Glenn misquoted it. It’s about decommissioning ATV/OHV approved trails and roads. I doubt this goes anywhere, this is becoming big business in MN.
“Commissioner of natural resources requirement to consider decommissioning a road or trail designated for off-highway vehicle use under certain circumstance”

I’m not talking about hiking trails. Glenn is the one that brought up limiting/cutting off access to nonmotorized trails, it’s in his first post. I’m talking about all the trails made by atvs on public. If it were up to me I’d tell everyone to lace up their boots if they want to access public, but I realize atv owners pay taxes too. Personally I’d support any bill that limits vehicle access to public land.
Coincidentally, speaking of being worried about stupid bills, I just found this one:
HF1540. “Thoroughbred Racehorse Residency Program”. Purpose- stimulate Minnesota’s equine industry and support stable hands….
Racehorse owners will receive $750 everyday one of their horse’s race; if said horse is boarded at a MN racetrack for 120 or more days a year..
Note this is per horse- they could get $3,000 in one day if they own and enter 4 horse’s. It would be funded by tax payer dollars coming from the general fund.
Bill authors:
Ben Bakeberg (R)
Brad Tabke (D)

This is another attempt to buy the horse racing industry’s silence on the tribes sports gambling monopoly. God forbid Canterbury and Running Aces allow sports betting on premises. The tribe hates competition. If you’re paying attention the tribes are the only ones selling legal weed in MN despite it being legalized almost 2 years ago now too.
I am with ya Hillhiker!!
What destruction I have seen of ecosystems by disrespectful off roaders is sad and unacceptable.
they invented peyote…. along with al gore’s help.
I’m all for you and Gore eating some buttons. Sounds like an exciting Friday night!

Maybe all you haters should just go buy your own private land if it’s so unbearable to see or hear other people enjoying what’s theirs. It’s public land. Deal with it. It’s not like you people sitting in a tree waiting for a dumb animal to walk by are bring in any revenue to the areas anyways.

We do own 40 north of Two Harbors. Its legally posted and a-holes on toys still seem to think what is ours is theirs. I’d be fine with anything with a gas or electric means of propulsion be limited in use to trails that require a fee to use them.

That’s what the sticker and license plate is for. Maybe people riding their stupid fat tire bikes year around on tax payer bike trails that don’t put a dime into the economy should pay their share? Sounds like you belong in California.
Let’s just have a free for all then Fins on public land and water. Sounds like that is what you want correct?
