After this decent cool down mid-week, it’s not looking good again.

Someone Has to Do It – Ice Predictions?

For those eyeing up Upper Red Lake, see attached forecast.
The winds are expected to be average after this late windy spell, but there are not many real cool nights slated after the middle of this week. Daytime highs for the next 10 days are still above average with some mid 30s predicted. It looks like walkable ice will be there, but for those who are itching to get their fancy wheelhouses out…it is going to be quite a bit yet. For the walkout traffic I think the water will be real dirty after all this wind on a shallow lake.

November 22, 2021 at 1:13 pm #207572810 degrees in Outing this AM.
EPG, have you been up there latley???? what have you seen or hear””””
i did the satalite thing yesterday and looked like the majority of there lakes up by us are froze over.
bowstring shores webcam looked like ice as far as you can see on bowstring lake. the williams narrrowscam in sheltered areas had more ice than yesterday, and no ice where the wind could get at it!!!!!!!!
November 22, 2021 at 1:58 pm #2075738Glenn I’ll be up T-Day afternoon. I’ll post a full report after a get a chance to check in with my Local buddies.
DeucesPosts: 5236November 22, 2021 at 2:49 pm #2075751Omw back from Hayward area Sunday night alot of lakes were starting to freeze over.
Lakes are there and ready, once the wind dies down they go quick.
But with that said better start doing your no early snow dance bc with mild temps that will really mess stuff up for the big house guys.

Now this is tempting as well.
November 23, 2021 at 8:14 am #2075905According to AccuWeather talmoon area high today is 41, supposedly. It won’t harm the ice, but after that ice making temps as far out as they forecast.
And for the amount of time it may be above freezing, meh…
November 23, 2021 at 8:45 am #2075913I heard from a reliable source who wishes to stay anonymous that a few people have attempted to poke holes on URL to check ice. They found 3″ not too far out, but some areas that looked terrible along with an ice sheet they expect could still move obviously. If things don’t get beat up too bad today in the heat with a south wind, the next few days should help to lock more things up. If the ice moves back north again today and opens up on the south side, those areas will freeze with significantly thinner ice the next few days.
My guess is that the social media sites up there start posting things Wednesday-Friday this week with ice checks to rev up the demand, and start letting some foot traffic out in very controlled areas early next week.
Down here on Pool 4 the backwater skim ice where there’s no current is holding through the day and now has frozen to about 3/4″ in most places. Where wind or any current can get at the water the ice is blowing off each day. The good ole’ rock test is clearly being attempted by many with mixed results depending on rock size and location
mrpike1973Posts: 1505November 23, 2021 at 8:50 am #2075916Joe your tempting me! I take it the regular small lakes up there?
November 23, 2021 at 8:58 am #2075920There was 3″ on a 300 acre lake near Alex Sunday, but with highs near 40 today and strong south winds, that could do alot of damage to established ice. Still deer season for me, be safe if ya get out.
November 23, 2021 at 8:59 am #2075921I’m on a 1000 acre lake just south of Hayward and it looks to have locked up overnight.

Could see that one a mile away. Plenty of lakes in the area have been 100 percent locked up all week. And weekend
