    Thanks for the info.

How does the gale pullover fit? I have 2 in the online cart now, but never know with sizing. For reference, I’m a fairly slender 5’11” and ~175-180#
    [/quote]

I’m 5’9″ 165 and have a large, I could have gotten away with a medium but it would have been more fitted like a normal sweatshirt, I wanted it to be extra roomy. I can easily wear it over my bibs and still have room for several layers underneath if I needed, including another sweatshirt. I usually wear it under the bibs though.

I have had mine about a 1.5 half right now received it for a fathers day gift. Was the best gift I have ever received. I believe I have the gale storm skin and the thing is amazing. I have one that is all black So I wear it in my blind duck hunting to late fall fishing to Ice fishing. I do not leave home without it any more less bulk then my ice armour and sheds the rain and moisture well. Ive thought about adding there bibs to my arsenal

I received mine this morning . A few first thoughts:

Size – I would say that it is fairly true to normal sizing. I was undecided between the XL and the 2 XL and went with the 2XL as I like my cloths loose as I like the ability to layer under them if needed. I think if I had ordered the XL It may have been a little to small for me. For Ref. I am 5’10” and around 220 ( a chubby little guy as my friends like to call me )

Warmth – I tried it on for just a short time in the house and out in the cool Garage – It seemed to be really warm. Some have said they use theirs while icefishing with just Bibs. I say this may be possible in the 30 Deg. and up range, but I doubt that I could get away with just this in temps below that. It is not so bulky that you would not be able to use this as a layer under a ice fishing jacket ( Happy about that ) I do feel like it will make a excellent early spring and late fall outer jacket for open water fishing

Comfort – With the plush fleece lining it is REALLY comfortable. I really like how the hood feels when not pulled up on the head. Sometimes hooded jackets feel bunched up unless the hood is pulled up. This one did not. It is also really comfortable with the hood up. I think it will be really nice for added head warmth while ice fishing.

Overall – for the little time I’ve had to look it over and try it on. I’m really happy with it. A few days of wearing it while out fishing will be the real test. Hope to put it to that test a few times in the next week.

First time I saw it and every time after, just rubs me wrong. Just about as lame a product name as I have ever seen. Just my opinion. BTW, there are a lot of clothing and footwear products I won’t by solely from the product name or company name. Lot a really bad brands out there.

Oh I get that. I thought you may have had a real negative experience with them or something.

I ordered a gale from the neighbor who is on the blackfish team. Came in pretty cheap, and is awesome as heck. I’ll be buying another. Highly recommend

You will like it Bearcat, especially at that price. It is about all I wear for an outer layer on the water from now thru April on the rainy river.

I ordered the Aftco reaper zip up jacket. It’s not very thick and seems like it would be ok for early fall type fishing. There is also holes around the armpit areas for ventilation. I prefer the option of a zipper. It doesn’t seem to fit the bill I was looking for. I’ll have to wait until the Striker jacket cone back in stock as it seems to be more suited for cold weather.

The Striker Renegade pullover is a great option in this category. A quality item for sure. Striker has a brand new building with a nice retail storefront right off of 94 in Hudson. It’s a great place to try things on and ask questions right from the source. The best thing is that I think they now have all sizes and colors in stock.

Another update….. Striker has discontinued the Rival zip up jacket. The search continues.

Stormskin gale is very nice as well. Neighbor brought me this over today and said thank you for helping him with some stuff. He is on the pro team for them so I’m not sure what his actual discount is but this thing is way nice. I can’t wait for it to cool down so I can use it.

It’s a nice discount but I’d still pay full price for the Gale or Stormskin products.

I thought I would give one last review on the Blackfish Gear Stormskin pullover Jacket that I got. I’ve now been able to put it to use several times in colder temps, I have to say that it is incredibly WARM. Was out on the lake yesterday with the temps near 30 Deg. and a wind of about 8-10 MPH. Had just a Sweatshirt under the Jacket and stayed plenty warm. I also wore it in a light rain a week ago and it did a excellent job of keeping me dry as well as warm. Overall I’m really happy with the purchase. I’m still not sure if it will work as a layer below my ice fishing jacket or not, but may find out soon enough.

    Bump

The blackfish stuff is all 25% off on their website. I ordered a couple of the pullovers for $30 off each.

I don’t like fishing or working outside with a full jacket on at all. I’m hoping this with a Milwaukee heated vest beneath will cover me for just about anything.

Bucky, it will be. I wear the Gale 90% of my days fishing. Single digits I want my jacket. But with a light long sleeve underneath it and bibs you can stay warm in just about any temps with it.

A winter update on the Gale stormskin Pullover from Blackfish. After getting a fair amount of use with it this winter, I have to say I’m really impressed with it. My thought of using it as a base layer for most winter activities has kind of changed. I most often find myself using it as a true outer jacket. I have used it a few times with a striker jacket over it in real cold ice fishing outings and snowmobiling, but usually end up taking the striker jacket off because it is just to warm. Although not true raingear it does shed a fair amount of water. Probably one of my better outdoor gear purchases this last year.

Exactly how I use it. I usually wear the pullover with a sweatshirt under and almost never need my full Clam Jacket. Another off shoot of that pullover is the vest. Same material and construction, just no sleeves. It’s perfect for those in between cold/cool days in the spring and fall where you can’t decide whether or not you need a jacket on our not.

Think what you want about Clam, but Blackfish (including their rain suits) is LEGIT.

I’m now debating between the new striker Vortex rain bibs or Blackfish rain bibs. Open to any and all opinions. I have also seen the Rapala rain bibs which look nice and are at a good price point. I can get a sizable discount on the Strikers so it will probably be my cheapest option. I am not loyal to one brand but I have mainly used Striker so far. Loved my Renegade pullover this winter, It’s also waterproof so should make a good rain jacket in the boat this spring.

Is there a style without the hood ?

3 season raingear hood – yes. Winter gear – I do not want the hood.

Winter knit hat suffices on top.

I’m still loving the storm skin pull over. Besides it is tough to wear with a hoodie underneath. The arms never get lined up right if that makes sense.

I have an Aftco Reaper pullover with the built in vented face mask. Quality construction and Very warm but runs on the small side. I wear 2X in just about everything and the Aftco seems tight.
