Im on my phone and it has a small screen. Is that a can near the middle?

Nope, pintail; had a mixed bag that day. WE shot mallards, Gadwall, wigeon, pintal, GWT and BWT. Some woodies came by right before shooting or else we could have possible added another species to the list. Right now is great time to get out and really crank out a mutlispecies hunt. – QB
Headed out next week for our annual hunt. What are you seeing for field feeding ducks? Big swarms yet? Sounds like average water conditions? I don’t see any big fronts rolling through before now and then so that is a little disappointing.
My friends are doing well on local ducks down in the Brookings area with a good mixed bag of different ducks. Last weekend was the “worst” they did but I imagine the locals are starting to get beat up a bit 3 weeks into the season.
I went to school in Brookings so I know the area well. With all the college students there… it gets pounded pretty hard within what I call the Brookings Bubble. Took me a couple years to figure out the bubble… once I got outside that… you could find good hunting on public land even.
Thanks for the info kooty… I’m hoping we don’t hit an awkward transition time between locals and migraters. Upper 60’s forecast for prairie Canada all next week though so I don’t think the push is coming anytime soon. Man this is one instance that I hope the weather folks missed…
My time was all spent NW of Watertown back in the day. Never had any competition and rarely had access issues. Kinda of miss those days. Broke all the time but I found a way to always be hunting and fishing.
Any birds moving with the front? Next week forecast looks worse and worse… upper 60’s and light winds every day… Only a duck hunter would scoff at that.
I saw very few Canadians moving through last weekend. I only saw local ducks in the central portion of the state. The nice weather isn’t helping much.
Yeah seriously… I am nervous about the weather. If things were more flexible for some of us, we would push the hunt later I think. Unfortunately, between work schedules and deer breeding schedules… we’re going now regardless of conditions. So bring on the 70’s I guess. I think I’ll go commando and just submerge myself in the decoys to stay cool.
Haha. Good luck. The one thing about out there. Even the bad hunts tend to be pretty good compared to most areas.
Seen a fair amount of birds around now seems to be a good push of gadwalls and divers around. Waiting for a good push of mallards to show up yet. My end of October is fairly busy now with pheasants guiding and work. Did manage the first true chopped corn limit of mallards this morning. With warmer temps the birds were pretty lazy and we only had maybe 100 birds come to the field but made it worth it for the two of us. – Qb
Keep us post Q. It’s that time of year when all heck breaks loose.
We did OK for what birds were around. Got aced out at a few spots. I keep hearing about less and less people duck hunting… Sure doesn’t seem that way. Birds are smart… they stay tucked back in and away from easy access. Cold weather should have them moving this week… Go get some!
