I feel so reassured that there are those out there defining and sheriffing my moral standards. I must be too stupid to do it on my own.

I don’t really think there is a line for discussion in the morality of a website promoting marital infidelity.

Does Society mimic Hollywood or does Hollywood mimic Society?

Funny thing is you don’t know how I feel about marital infidelity or sites that promote it. My only point is that I feel nobody else has the right to decide this for me as an individual.

Is it OK with you guys if I watch greedy gold miners raping pristene Canadian wilderness tonight? They will also be burning insane amounts of fossil fuel and contributing to global warming…please shield your children, that unbridled lust and ambition may send them into a capitalistic orgy lasting a lifetime.

Haha. Watch what you want, just like we do. My job is to raise my family and I choose not to spend time watching television that glorifys lifestyles and habits that I do not care for. I find little on television that I feel comfortable letting my 8yr old watch, so therefore we watch little tv.

The fact that a website promoting infidelity is popular enough to warrant ad dollars is unsettling to me. But then again with a 50% divorce rate in the country, it is not surprising either.

Another part of this problem is, as people see more and more immorality, they become desensitized to it (morality)and it becomes more accepted. This is not a good thing!

I sense a lack of confidence in parenting ability. I understand my kids are going be exposed to a lot stuff that aren’t in line with my values — it’s unavoidable. I’m not very worried about it because I’m fairly confident that the kind of relationship we’ve cultivated with our children has given them the tools to make good decisions.

I don’t believe the average Midwestern family has viewing demands that matter. there just are not enough of us.

We watch very, very little TV due to the absolute lack of what we consider to be moral and acceptable to watch as a family.

When the average sitcom revolves around sex, drugs, violence, or being gay, we don’t tune in. I still pay the satellite bill, so they are getting their money even though we don’t approve or encourage what they are showing. If being fed up with watching immorality on TV makes me a bigot, then I guess I live in a household of bigots.

    T

…There really are some GOOD TV Channels. The History channel . Nature, Science, Animal Plant, National Geo. Disney, Sports, Cooking, Outdoor channels, Explore, Public tv etc etc.

In my own ability, absolutely not, my son will know right from wrong. Again I state this in not about censorship, censorship imply’s that the item/act in question is not inherently wrong, just for some ages or groups or what have you. This is about the bar being so far into the gutter that things that are a clear cut case of wrong/evil/what ever you want to call it are suddenly mainstream and acceptable.

    For debate purposes…

How do you think the parents of the 60’s Woodstock strata felt about the future? Drugs & sex ran rampant.

What if that era had today’s social communication tools?

Fwiw – a lot of the world’s ills create concern for me as well.

Good thing I rarely turn on the tube. Would only add to the weight of life. ISIS, IS, ISIL or whatever they go by is simply mind blowing on a whole new level. That level of hate is uncomprehendable.

Odd topic on this day to celebrate love but couldn’t help but contemplate what prior generation folks might have thought about questionable behavior.

ISIS is nothing new, they are pursuing humans desire for self rule which has played out in human history since before we even started writing it down. Their tactics while *abhorrent are time tested throughout history. Attila the hun, Hitler, Crusades, the inquisitions, to name a few who were looking to establish a state that is exactly how they believe it should be. Unlike us who go in and try to change minds of other countries and then leave, they are fighting for what they believe is their home. Heaven forbid an entity invaded the US, would you hold back anything in trying to keep your home? Think about it, to truly control and rule a land and live eventually in pease and not having to look over your shoulder you go in kill the men and children and impregnate the women. In one and a half generations you have a loyal citizenry, that is the true definition of winning a war.

Again, I hate Isis and everything they do and represent, but they are a reality that can’t be ignored or minimized.

Yes, some people are that stupid, not saying you are one of those people but there are many out there IMHO

What would you suggest to help our USA society, have a moral compass or let there be no bounds with total free individual choice?

In the public realm I as a US citizen rely on the Constitution. In my private realm I rely on my religion.

In recent years I think our society has been seeking more tolerance – and in many cases it was needed. Unfortunately, the pendulum has swung far to the other direction now to the point of “anything goes.”

So sitting on the couch watching the start of the last samurai since I’ve only ever seen the end, it’s on spike tv channel. Goes to commercial break and there is an add of a bunch of guys singing about looking for someone other than their wife as an add for ashley madison (it’s apparently a website to help married people cheat). On regular basic cable, it wasn’t like I was on some pay per view type channel. The fact a website like this even exists aside, advertising it on tv like it’s just a normal thing passes as acceptable these days??

And we wonder why kids act like they do, athletes like they do and so on and so forth. Seems to me there are a lot of people out there that need a good swift kick in the arse.

    Agree!

No worry, sorry to offend anyone. On a serious note, I’m going fishing and it’ll be below 0 and 20-30 mph wind. How’s that for serious?

That is the best solution, yet, Gregg. And take your kids and share your values as best you can. BTW, I won’t waste time on tv/cable. . .too many better things to do with my time and energy. Like tying rigs, sorting cranks, researching new places to fish, learning a new technique, visiting with family/friends, tutoring/mentoring kids, grilling (are you getting it, yet?)

yes…. to my point. During the time of Jesus and since then Christians have been beheading, crucifying, raping, pillaging, burning at the stake and god knows what else… you get the jest, all in the name of their Christian religion. I think it hilarious that since the apostles didn’t behead anyone, Christianity has not… they were followers and became preachers of it in it’s infancy.
