Sober cab

Need to get to middle of 500acre lake, 12 guys, gear, portable grill, beer, etc. Just one or two snowmobiles(resort owner says sleds only), noone has been on lake yet to plow roads or even a track.

The main kicker is most dudes will probably be lit up just from the bar stops on the way up, so going out is tough enough but manageable, but going back in to cabin is an absolute $hit show. I was thinking of making some type cheap toboggan but afraid that would require way too much balance to stay on, probably get a lil tippy from snow pack anyways. Still wish I had my couch sled. Maybe a big elevated 2×8 on some angled skies? Inflatable boat on couple Smitty’s?

Any ideas much appreciated. These conditions have taken away our options for usual transportation.

Im a bigger beer drinker then most but I think you know the obvious answer is just drink a little less. You will also have more fun the next day.

Leave a beer every 100 yards to mark your way out there. On the way in you just cover one eye to get back to seeing single and Hansel & Gretel your way in with the beers, consuming as you go so as to maintain a proper BAC.

Have a couple guys that take care of the rest, but if you are part of the rest you don’t drink less until at the bar on the way home Sunday, and even that’s a maybe.

If you can find a beater flat bottom hull, those work awesome for awkward load haulage behind a sled. My buddy has one at his place for the exact scenario you describe.

Great idea fishwater. How does something like that pull in 2′ snow? We have a 14′ we could use but that seems a bit heavy especially with gear in it for a sled but I have zero sled experience

Fish the first break. Whoever is running the sleds is going to have to make a lot of trips to pack a good trail, had a buddy get stuck in slush on his sled last weekend in the Fergus Falls area solo. So loaded to the gills w/ stuff and/or beer is going to be an issue.

Not possible, resort is in back Bay so good fishing is located at least 500 yds out, which will be our last resort, but crappie hole is our destination, and with being no traffic this year, is a hole I want to be in.

It’s a lake we had a family cabin on in years past so we know it quite well

Well I’d keep the sleds running back and forth until you have a good packed trail, and make everyone walk back in then lol.

Nice mrgreen Would something as simple as heavy duty tarp/canvas work with good grommets to run rope through? I’m thinking like a canvas drop for painting. You could fit a ton of stuff on it and it’s cheap, but not sure it would pull well.

I was surprised how easy his setup pulled. We had 4 guys and a dog in a 12′, maybe 18″ of unpacked snow? This was behind a mid 90’s 600 vmax 2up. The only big issue was getting the rig moving if you happened to stop off trail. With a couple of runs unhitched, you would be good.

That’s pretty genius, and a lot more packable than a boat! You could maybe fold the tarp and sandwich it between a couple lengths of dimensional lumber secured to the bumper of a snowmobile?

Bring a extra sled belt for when you burn one off from trying to pull all that weight in 2’ of snow waytogo

That’s the concern. Certainly can run some paths back and forth few times to get it somewhat packed. Take a few trips to get all the guys and gear out in ice to spread out the weight.

I wonder how stuff would stay in the tarp as far as gear goes. Might be a bumpy ride for the fellas too?

i would say have 2 snowmobiles if possible and a couple otter type sleds to haul gear and take multiple trips.

24 Posts so far about how to move drunks 500 yards off a lake. If the majority are unable to function it sounds really dangerous to me. Good luck. I hope nobody gets left outside.

I was just going to post the same, I hope that Monday we’re not reading about 12 went out, but only 10 made it home to their families,,,,

I’m all for having a good time, but if I can’t make it back 500 yards to the cabin, I don’t need to participate.

Was wondering when the safety police were going to arrive, didn’t expect you Suzuki, maybe dutchy jester

There are alot of responsible drunks out there, show a lil respect. Thousands do it every weekend all year long. No drunks are driving first of all, no drunks left behind, drunks live matters, all that jazz.

Couple times people have passed out outside, those usually ended up getting tbagged, everyones been making it to the cabin for years now. doah

And, the 500 yds option sounded like the B plan, not the honey hole A plan. How far is the A hole? jester

Love it! Off topic but, we did the zipline across the Mississippi before the the Super Bowl and there airplane bottles of fireball all the way up the 100′ flight of stairs and at the last landing was a massive pile of puke! Nerves or booze?
