So when you say weedline, you mean…

    ….what, exactly?

I just read in a post about someone having success dragging a jig on the weedline. I assume that means the area with no weeds? On many of the lakes I’ve fished, there isn’t really a defined weedline; instead, the weeds just sort of taper off and die out as (I assume) light penetration decreases.

And how close to the actual end of the weeds do you need to be? Is a good five feet close enough? (I assume it depends on other factors, but are you talking *precisely* where the weeds stop? Over the tops of the few remaining weeds in the last few feet where they still exist? Or is there some room off the weedline that still “works” for fish?

Thanks for the help with newbie questions. s

I let the fish tell me. I’ll start out maybe five feet off the weeds on my fist pass , if I haven’t been there in awhile and don’t know were the fish are. I will move in as close to weeds as I can on the next pass if five feet out didn’t work. Good luck, good side imagining will help you also.

If there isn’t a defined weed edge you might have to work a different technique too. Don’t get caught up using one style of fishing if the body of water doesn’t show it.

I like to use my sonar and/or visually see where the weeds stop growing. This could be on the shallow or deep edge of the weed bed. Lately all my fish are on the deep edge.
I put my boat right over that weedline and parallel it making casts directly off the bow and down the edge of the weeds.

My only tidbit for fishing weed-lines is to be the person one he inside!

When I tell people I fishing a weed-line, it’s pretty defiant…either below the water or above, but its pretty obvious.
