Finally got through with unemployment insurance and accepted today. After hours of completing transaction I get a call from my new employer an hour later are you ready to work we have been cleared as essential. Words I wanted to hear.
Now the complication, this is a new hire for me. Timing is ironic, idont know how to handle the unemployment ins issue.

Go to work and cancel the unemployment.

Go to work and cancel the unemployment.

    No

Claim the weeks you were unemployed

No need to cancel anything. You just stop claiming the weeks you have full time work for.

If you have a short week due to lack of work, you can claim a partial week (typically under 20 hours of work)

If this new job goes titts up or you get a short week, you reactivate your existing claim until you find something else or work picks back up full-time. Your claim should be open for a year.

If 13 months from now you’re unemployed again, you will need to file a new claim, just as you did to start this one.

Agreed you are still able to collect on the weeks you were unemployed.

As long as you were originally laid off due to covid19

As long as you were originally laid off due to covid19

If his former employer paid into unemployment and laid him off, he can claim for anything (lack of work, belly up, cut workforce, etc, etc)

It doesn’t have to be related to the kung-flu (unless self employed, family employed, etc)

Thanks all, I was not sure how things go for unemployment benefits as I have not filed since 1987. This will help with my savings taking a hit and and the new job being paid on a biweekly schedule.

I’m grateful to be able to to put money back into the economy again.
I pray for those that are sidelined for a quick turnaround.

They are correct, I believe you file for previous weeks. You are unemployed until the first day you actually work.

    Stopping and starting benefit payments
What if I go back to work?

When you return to full-time work or want to stop requesting benefit payments for any reason, make your final request and then stop requesting. No notification is needed.
If you start work at your new job in the middle of a week, report your hours worked and your earnings for the week, even if you haven’t been paid yet. You may be eligible to receive a partial benefit payment.
Remember to report your hours worked and earnings for the week, even if you haven’t been paid yet.
Make sure to keep your password and unemployment debit card (if you have one) in a safe place in case you need to start requesting benefits again.
Keep the address on your account up-to-date for at least four years after your last request for a benefit payment. Even after you stop requesting benefits, your account may be audited or we may need to contact you for other reasons. If we can’t reach you, audit findings will be made without your input and you will be responsible for any overpayments that might result.
