I like to fish the Croix a few times a year, usually around opener and in the fall. Has anyone used Beanies under the new ownership yet or am I better off hitting Bluffs?
Any walleye bite going?

ahhhhh the elusive fall Croix bite. Good luck with that.
I havent heard anything but something should be happening in the next few weeks once the temps stay down. Good luck.
I was at Beanies yesterday. Still the same owners at this time.
Normally, about the time I’ve heard about the fall bite on the Croix, it’s been over with by about two weeks.
Big River Rat Tourney on the 17th…..things are pretty hush hush
I am off 9/20 and 9/21, just wondering if it is worth the launch fee or if I should stay on Pool 2. 11/11 is another day I like to get out there.
Fished last Saturday and the bite was good. Eater sized fish in Afton area.
It’s been a very good year on the St. Croix. This fall should be excellent.

The bite has been phenomenal. Lots of fish caught of every species, this has been one of the best years for me also caught my PB open water flathead (22lb) and walleye (8-9lb). I’ll catch her when she’s 10+, Good Luck out there!
Anyone have any new reports? I’m thinking about heading out tomorrow and give it a go. With all the rain I think I am going to stay away from P2 for awhile.
Eyes have been fairly easy going for me personally, pounding sand.
But I guess I haven’t fished for them in 5 days.
Wind doesn’t hurt either.
Trolling crankbaits on the sand or any other tactics working? This is my first year on the Croix and while it’s been a mixed bag it seems like trolling cranks or crawlers have been the ticket.
Does the plastics bite turn on as the water cools?
Well. If you see grizz… He’s using jig and minnow… See if you can get him to wave once
That’s funny – I tried all spring to catch them on jigs and minnows with very little success.
I must be jiggin’ wrong.

Q#1: Cranks and crawlers always work.
Today -We caught two limits on crawlers. 11′ to 24′ deep.
Q#2: Yes, plastics are better as the water cools.
Good luck!!

Limited success on Sunday – trolled and drug live bait in a handful of spots from the Kinnie up to Hudson. With all of the rain (and the morning downpours) it seemed like it was fairly slow for everyone. Anyone else out this weekend?
Water was still in the mid-sixties so it would be nice to see it come down a bit. Water was also high but there wasn’t much current to speak of.
Beanies is still under the old ownership….
Made it out a few hours last week, 3hours thursday and 2 on friday. The walleye bite is still on, fish ranging from 13-22″. Smallies and whitebass mixed in also it was hott hott hott! Found them in 9fow, every cast for about an hour. Kept 3 each evening, Good Luck!
Made it out for a few hours lastnight, put 5 in the box for 2hours of fishing. All fish were 15-19″, for 20 minutes non stop walleye action again. The smallies were stacked on top of the walleyes with whitebass in between. Good Luck!!
Tipdown, are you casting a jig minnow or something else to those hungry fish? Sounds like you found a good spot where fish move shallow to feed before dark. I tried last saturday morning and picked up a nice 18″er right away on a jig minnow and it was all short fish after that. Lots of small white bass in the river this year. Looks good for the future. Anybody finding any crappies?
I’ve been throwing heavy jigs with plastics with an aggressive rep. I’ve noticed the larger fish are a bit deeper but are just as aggressive. I know the crappies are in there mixed in I see them on SI, caught quite a few weeks prior to this but no size to them. Good Luck!
Thanks for the tip. It is fun when they are thumping plastics. Some day I will have to upgrade to side imaging. Sure would save me some time looking for fish on the croix.
The bite is still phenomenal, four hours on Sunday put 6 in the box between two guys 15-20inchers. Last night two hours, I put 4 in the box 16-20inch. Lots of whitebass, smb and a few crappie in the mix. The walleyes are fat fat fat!!!!!!! Also caught my first swimbait fish since El Salto back in April, its a great time to be on the river, Good Luck!
TIPDOWN wasn’t kidding!!! We had a blast Saturday afternoon with my buddy and 9 year old son. Pulling lead core kept us busy almost the entire time. It gets a little hectic when all 4 rods are hooked up and you only have 3 guys to reel them in! Even had a nice kicker to boot…
Nice fish! Saturday all my walleye over 15″s were caught on lead too. Tried minnows and jigging, but that only caught crappies, smallies and short eyes. Did get some dandy white bass trolling too.

Nice fish Sir!!!!! I’ve released quite a few of those but that sure is a dandy congrats!!!!!
Thanks guys! I would have swore that it was 29 when it hit the net. Probably the fattest 27 that I’ve seen for this time of year. A quick measurement, couple of photos, and back to the water for her…
The bite was still good sunday morning. Caught fish pulling lead and jigging. Water temp was down to 48. Caught more sauger than walleyes trolling which was suprising.
Have had a great fall on the Croix. 1st pic is from Saturday Nov. 18 and 2nd is from Nov. 26
Nice bunch of fish. Good to see they are still biting. Haven’t been down there for a few weeks and was curious how it was going.
